About

Professional Summary

I am an Oxford Physics graduate and a qualified teacher with over four years of secondary classroom experience teaching Science and Physics, and have worked as a private tutor since 2012. I have successfully taught hundreds of students aged 11 to 18, confidently accommodating all learning abilities and special educational needs.

Subjects & Specialties

  • School Admissions: 11+ and prestigious private school entrance exams.

  • University Preparation: Entrance exam preparaion, UCAS references, personal statements, and Oxbridge interview coaching.

  • Recent Track Record: I have had many successful students to Oxford and Cambridge, as well as Eton and other top schools.

Teaching Approach

My methodology draws heavily from the rigorous, individualised Oxford tutorial system. Rather than simply providing answers, I structure topics to build on a student's existing understanding so they can solve problems independently. Furthermore, I integrate principles of neuroscience and memory to optimise our lessons, ensuring that new information is consolidated effectively and efficiently.

Premium Online Tuition

I specialise in highly interactive online tutoring, for which I have invested extensively in high quality equipment.

  • Interactive Whiteboards: We collaborate on digital whiteboards that remain permanently available for students to review and add notes at their leisure.

  • Lesson Recordings: Every session is recorded and fully downloadable, providing an invaluable, permanent resource for revision.

How we verify these

Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:

  • Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
  • Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.

The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

William has been very professional at all times. Punctual, knowledgeable and most importantly, works very well with my 14 yr old who looks forward to his tutor time. Highly recommended.

    William H. replied

Thanks so much Karen, H is a fascinating student and I've really enjoyed exploring how his mind works and how to unpick the concepts he finds difficult. Glad to hear he is enjoying too, looking forward to making even further progress!

William has been extremely helpful and professional. My son gets on well with him and says William has made a real difference to his understanding of both physics and chemistry. I would definitely recommend him.

    William H. replied

William is an excellent teacher. He encourages his students to think beyond just the mechanics of exam questions. His style is never confrontational; he is patient and encouraging. When he identifies a gap in a student's knowledge, he works with the student to build up a thorough understanding of the principles and how to apply them. He has enriched and deepened my son's understanding of Physics.

William takes time to understand the students needs and focuses on developing their abilities. He has a pleasant warm manner that engages the student in their work. William has tutored my daughter both in person and using the on-line tool to good effect.

    William H. replied

Thank you, Gordon. It's been a real pleasure working with you and your family and I've really enjoyed watching Emily making such good progress.

Our son struggles with maths and just missed on a pass at Nat 5 level, has dyslexia and dislikes the subject. Having had several sessions with William, Ryan enjoys his sessions, feels he has learnt topics quickly due to Williams teaching style, “likes maths” now as William seems to make each topic simple and in a way which Ryan understands. With the Nat 5 exam still to sit, Ryan’s confidence in the subject I has increased tenfold and I cannot recommend William highly enough.

    William H. replied

Thank you - I'm extremely pleased with Ryan's progress, and it's inspiring to see how much more confident he has become. He is a pleasure to teach, and I look forward to seeing him every week.

William has been a wonderful Maths tutor to my son Nicholas. I would not hesitate in recommending him highly as a Maths tutor. With great patience and kindness he has helped my son increase his knowledge in a subject that he found daunting and in doing so has increased his confidence.

William is excellent. Laura has gained a better understanding and he has tutored her in Physics, Chemistry & Maths. Where Laura has had difficulty, he has been able to explain in a way that Laura has grasped. He is flexable and punctual. I would have no hesitation in recommending him.

    William H. replied

Thanks very much, Laura's progress is very encouraging!
