About
I am a Cambridge University educated, fully-qualified teacher P.G.C.E QTS. I am available to tutor in English Language, English Literature, French, Spanish, Italian and EFL. I tutor all levels from KS2 upwards and I am also an experienced 11+, 13+ and Entrance Exams English tutor. I tutor at KS3, KS4 and KS5 and for all the main exam boards at G.C.S.E, I.G.C.S.E and A`Level including AQA and Edexcel. I offer in person and online tuition to students, many of whom I prepare for the academically selective school admission process. I also deliver EAL/EFL tuition to international students who are preparing for Entrance Examinations and/or IELTS and support EAL students already at top independent schools in the UK. I have particular experience with students whose first language is Chinese, helping them to elevate their vocabulary and writing skills. I have also designed and taught small group courses for children aiming for 11+ or 13+ and examples of these courses are Vocabulary Enrichment; Creative Writing; Persuasive Writing and Reading Comprehension Skills.
My online lessons always have a clear objective and I enhance lessons with power points, live lesson chat, interactive whiteboard and worksheets, to make learning effective and engaging. I also enjoy creating my own bespoke teaching resources and share these with my students. I always set homework, unless not requested, in order to assess learning, measure progress and inform future lesson planning. For all school curriculum and exam tutoring I provide parents with regular progress updates and make available a range of supplementary material. I also provide my own model answers for further guidance, which students have found very helpful. While the focus is always to deepen your knowledge and understanding, we might need to fill any gaps in your knowledge as and when they arise. I also offer an initial free "meet and greet" session to discuss your learning needs, make a learning plan and, of course, for you to ask any questions.
I have many years of teaching and tutoring experience in both English Language, English Literature and Modern Foreign Languages. I hold UK Qualified Teacher Status [QTS] and have taught in both UK Secondary and Primary Schools. I have extensive experience of boosting students' G.C.S.E. grades up to +3 to grade 9 or from a low starting grade to a strong pass. I achieve this by focusing on exam strategy and applying the assessment objectives to your answers. I have also successfully prepared pupils for interviews and entrance examinations at top independent schools. Currently, I also deliver EAL and exam support to international students in UK independent schools, including interview preparation.

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

My daughter had about 12 hrs tuition with Wendy just prior to sitting her GCSEs. She improved by 3 grades in English Lit and 2 grades in English language. Wendy was very supportive and we would recommend her. Thanks

Excellent tutor, helped my son to achieve 9 in GCSE. English is not his favourite subject and was pulling him down with grades. He really enjoyed his lessons with Miss. Wendy. Very committed tutor and he couldn’t have done this without her guidance and support. Our heartfelt thanks

I can not recommend Wendy enough for anybody serious about improving their French. My son has just received a 9 for GCSE French, when 2 years ago he was being predicted a 3. This massive change was of course in conjunction with his school lessons, however the weekly tutorial with Wendy made a massive difference in his French ability and confidence. I am 100% sure a 9 would not have been possible without Wendy's excellent tuition.
Wendy I. replied
Thanks for your feedback. It was great to teach your son across years 10 and 11 and see his French flourish.

Wendy comes highly recommended. She is dedicated to enriching my daughter's learning at GCSE level. She adapts to my daughter's needs and has put the confidence in her that was missing. I cannot praise her enough and her commitment to developing English Language and Literature skills in my 15 year old. I will be keeping her on for A Level English studies too. Her experience and dedication to teaching shines. My daughter looks forward to her lessons.

Wendy is an excellent tutor. As a homeschooled student I have had my fair share of tutors and I can safely say Wendy was by far the best. Her help allowed me to succeed in my A Levels and get accepted into my first choice university in the USA. I have now graduated and pursuing a Master’s degree. This simply would not have been possible without Wendy’s exceptional teaching and support. Thank you Wendy!!
Wendy I. replied
It's always a pleasure to receive news of former students and hear about their continuing education journey. I wish you every success on your American adventure as you commence your Master's.

Wendy has been instrumental in building confidence and ability within English and Spanish at GCSE in our daughter over the past 9 months. We have been very pleased with Wendy's approach in both subjects and our daughters technical English ability has made significant improvement dispite already being at a good school. Wendy has a very methodical approach to the subjects and this has been an excellent fit for our daughter. We would have no hesitation in recommending Wendy to other parents.
Wendy I. replied
Thanks for your feedback. It is a pleasure to see your daughter grow in confidence week on week and enjoy her learning.

I approached Wendy to help my daughter study for her GCSE English Language and Literature. Although the exams were only months away, Wendy managed to teach her exam techniques and vastly improve her vocabulary. Wendy's help was invaluable and my daughter is convinced she would not have passed both her English GCSE's without Wendy's techniques and encouragement.
Wendy I. replied
I'm very pleased to hear that your daughter achieved her passes. She displayed a mature attitude to her learning and was fully engaged from her first lesson. It was a pleasure to teach her.

Wendy is guiding me through from an absolute beginner level. It’s early days and challenging, but Wendy is an excellent Tutor, and explains simply the nuances of the language.
Wendy I. replied
Thanks for the feedback David. Yes, it is challenging to learn a new language but so rewarding if you stick with it.

We were looking for a tutor to support our 14 year old daughter (her school complete this exam a year early)on the run up to her taking her gcse English Literature. She lacked confidence and structure and was procrastinating when it came to revision. We booked ten sessions with Wendy which made all the difference. Our daughter gained a level 7 (2 marks off an 8) and we were were all extremely pleased. We will definitely use Wendy again for my daughter when she does her other subjects and my son in a couple of years. Wendy has a lovely approach and my daughter worked well with her, I would definitely recommend her.
Wendy I. replied
Thanks for this feedback. I'm so glad that I was able to boost your daughter's confidence and make the difference for her. She worked well for me throughout all our sessions and I look forward to helping her again in the future.
