Fiona had been tutoring on First Tutors for years when, in 2026, that platform was abruptly closed. The shutdown left thousands of tutors and parents without a directory to find each other through, and demonstrated in fairly stark terms how fragile the incumbent marketplaces had become.

Tutorperch is the response. Fiona had the idea, the working knowledge of what tutors actually need from a directory, and the conviction that a marketplace built around a one-off introduction fee — rather than perpetual commission on every lesson — could treat both sides of the relationship fairly. The pricing model, the safeguarding discipline, and the tone of the platform all reflect that.

Day-to-day she runs the tutor-facing side of the operation: reviewing safeguarding submissions, answering tutor support email, and editing the parent-facing guides. Profile reviews on the platform go past her before they go live.
