For tutors
List as a UK tutor on Tutorperch.
Listing is free and the only tutor-side cost is a one-off £3.00 verification fee. The student pays £9.99 once to unlock your contact details, and from there you and they arrange everything directly. We take no commission on those lessons.
We've heard this from tutors
If you've listed on the big sites, you know.
Most UK tutoring marketplaces run on commission. They take a cut of every lesson you teach, indefinitely. The model has predictable downsides:
20-49% commission, on every lesson
Big platforms take a cut of every hour you teach. The longer you tutor a student, the more they earn from a single introduction they made years ago.
Students you can't take with you
Many platform terms forbid swapping contact details or booking off-platform, even with a student you've been teaching for years. Breaking that puts your account at risk.
Cancellation policies that favour the student
When a student bails on a lesson last-minute, you're often the one out of pocket. Platforms keep the buyer side happy, because that's where their commission comes from.
What we do instead
How we earn.
The student pays a one-off £9.99 to unlock your contact details. That's the single fee we earn, paid once per introduction. After it, the tutor-student relationship is yours.
No commission on lessons
After the student pays the £9.99 finder's fee to unlock your contact details, you and they transact directly. We take no per-lesson cut and have no further claim on the relationship.
£3.00 verification fee, one-off
A two-minute identity check by our verification provider, then a manual safeguarding review by our team. The £3.00 fee covers both for the full three-year cycle. Enhanced DBS covers tutors in England and Wales, with PVG and AccessNI as the Scotland and Northern Ireland equivalents.
Direct relationship after unlock
Students message you on platform until they're ready to commit. Once they've unlocked, you swap contact details and handle the lessons directly between yourselves.
You set your own rate
There's no algorithmic rate-suppression, and no platform-set ceiling on what you can charge.
An honest ask
A small ask, on pricing.
We tell parents on the homepage that booking via Tutorperch is cheaper than going through a commission platform, because we don't take a cut of your hourly rate.
That pitch is only true if tutors actually price fairly here. So if you list with us and on a commission site, we'd ask you to consider quoting a slightly lower rate on Tutorperch, knowing your take-home is the same or higher because we're not skimming a commission. We have no way to enforce that, but it's the deal that makes the pitch true for everyone.
The maths, simply: a commission site takes ~£7.50/hr from a £30/hr tutor. If you charge £25/hr here, the student pays less and you take home more. If you charge the same £30, you take home more and the student still saves on the markup. Either way, the agency is the only one losing.
We're not a charity and you're not running one either. We earn once per intro and stay out of what happens after. You keep your full rate.

How tutors rank
How tutors rank in search.
Tutors rise on Tutorperch primarily through reviews from real students. Secondary signals include profile depth and Safeguarding-Verified status. Response speed doesn't enter the formula, and nobody can pay for a higher slot.
No response-time penalty
You're a teacher first. We don't drop you in rankings for being slow to reply to messages.
No pay-to-rank tier
There's no "boosted" tier and no premium subscription that floats you to the top. The £9.99 unlock fee is the only money on the platform.
For clarity
A few things we deliberately don't do.
We don't run lessons. There's no video classroom, scheduling tool, escrow, or platform-mediated payment. Once contact details are unlocked, lesson logistics happen between you and the student.
We don't take a fee from tutors for finding them work. The £9.99 unlock is paid by the student. The £3.00 verification fee is cost-recovery for the identity check and manual safeguarding review, structured as a separable service so it doesn't fall foul of the Conduct Regs 2003.
