About

A UK tutoring directory that earns once per introduction.

Tutorperch is a UK directory of independent tutors. Students pay a one-off £9.99 finder's fee to unlock contact-sharing with one tutor, then book lessons directly. We take no commission on those lessons.

Why we exist

The current model rewards the platform.

Most UK tutoring marketplaces run on commission. They take 20-49% of every lesson you and your tutor agree on, indefinitely, on the strength of a single introduction they made years ago. Students end up paying a markup. Tutors end up either absorbing the cut or pricing higher to cover it. The platform is the only party whose income scales with how long the relationship lasts.

We chose a different model: charge once for the introduction, and stay out of the lessons after. The tutor keeps their full hourly rate. The student pays less than they would through a commission site for the same teaching. We earn once per useful introduction.

In practice

How the introduction fee works.

Anyone can browse tutor profiles without signing up. When you find someone who looks right, send them a message. Messages are free and unlimited on both sides, so you can use the thread to figure out whether you're a fit, contact details are blocked in messages until you unlock. Once you've decided to work together, pay £9.99 once. That unlocks the thread so you can share your contact details directly, and from there you and the tutor arrange lessons between yourselves: cadence, location, payment, the lot.

For clarity

A few things we deliberately don't do.

We don't run lessons. There's no video classroom, scheduling tool, escrow, or platform-mediated payment. Once you've unlocked, lessons happen wherever you and the tutor agree: video call or in person, at whatever cadence and rate you settle on.

We don't sell anything else above the unlock. No premium tier, no boosted listings. The £9.99 unlock is the only money on the platform.

We don't automate the safeguarding check. We use the same manual-review discipline whether the tutor submits a DBS, PVG, or AccessNI certificate. None of it goes through an automated verification feed.

We don't mass-import tutor profiles. Every tutor on the directory chose to list. We've never scraped a competitor site.

Who's behind it

Built by a tutor and an engineer.

Tutorperch was co-founded in 2026 by Fiona H., a UK tutor whose practice was disrupted when First Tutors closed in May 2026, and Robert S., a software engineer and Fiona's partner. Fiona had the idea and the working knowledge of what tutors actually need from a directory. Robert built the platform around that.

It's a small operation by design. Support emails come back from us. Safeguarding submissions are reviewed by us. If you reply to a message from us, you're talking to one of two people.
