A First Tutors client · ★★★★★ · about Dr Nathan H.

We were incredibly fortunate to find an outstanding tutor in Nathan for our daughter at a time when she was questioning her place on her degree course. Transitioning from a small school to university lecture halls with over 70 students was a huge shift. With dyslexia, dyscalculia, and anxiety, she often felt judged and unsure of her academic abilities, which led her to withdraw and study on her own. However, she was fully engaged in smaller, more focused discussions/groups—analytical, curious, and eager to interrogate ideas from every angle, even those that didn’t yet exist. She had always worked independently and enjoyed reading, researching, and thinking critically on her terms. What Nathan brought was something transformative: a true intellectual partnership. Their sessions were rich with discussion, exploration, disagreement, and laughter. Nathan was intellectually challenging and genuinely fun to work with, which helped create a space where our daughter felt energised, motivated, and fully engaged. He didn’t simply support from the sidelines; he actively challenged her thinking, introduced new concepts, and opened perspectives she hadn’t considered. It was more than she got from her lectures, where large-group formats and limited interaction made connecting difficult. With Nathan, learning became active, personal, and genuinely energising—a rare relationship built on challenge, trust, and mutual respect. We are incredibly thankful for the insight, care, and expertise Nathan brought to each session. His ability to meet our daughter where she was, while steadily drawing her forward, made a lasting impact on her academic performance and boosted her confidence and self-esteem. It is rare to encounter someone who combines such intellectual depth with genuine empathy, flexibility, and a brilliant sense of humour. We recommend Nathan to every student searching for a diligent, perceptive, extremely knowledgeable tutor/ mentor who is also engaging and genuinely enjoyable to work with—and to any parent wishing their child to be challenged and developed as a first-class thinker. Nathan sees your child’s potential and knows precisely how to unlock it. Our daughter and we, her parents, sincerely thank Nathan for the two academic years of support he provided, the difference he made, and the vital role he played in helping her move forward with confidence. Thank you, Nathan.
