SARAH · ★★★★★ · about Jonathan C.

My son began weekly hourly sessions with Jon a couple of months in to Year 12, when he was struggling with the jump from GCSE to A-Level Maths, and continued until the Year 13 A-level exam. We provided Jon with the school topic timetable and Jon set questions in his lessons following those topics. He was very flexible though - some weeks my son asked him to run through tricky questions he'd encountered in class/questions he'd got wrong in mock exams. Jon writes the question on screen and asks the student how to approach it. As the student explains how to answer it Jon writes this up on screen. If the students goes off-track, Jon suggests they think of a different method until the student themself finds the answer. This approach built confidence and it really helped with the final exams as many of the questions were unusual but my son was comfortable trying different approaches to get to the answer. At the end of the lesson Jon emails all the extremely clear on-screen questions/answers, which is helpful for revision, along with practice homework questions and answers on the weekly topic. I really cannot praise Jon enough. His excellent maths ability is abundantly clear, but he is also a really great teacher; he always puts the student at ease, is encouraging and patient. As a parent it was a pleasure communicating with Jon too. I was 100% happy with everything over the 2 years. With Jon's help, my son achieved an A grade in his recent A-Level, which at the start of Year 12 had seemed unachievable.
