Our reviews policy

Reviews only help if you can trust them. This page sets out, in plain terms, who can leave a review on Tutorperch, what we don't allow, and what to do if you think a review breaks the rules.

Who can leave a review

A review can only be left by someone who actually paid to unlock that tutor on Tutorperch. Each paid unlock allows one review of that tutor, and reviews open for a short window after the unlock. There is no way to leave a review without a genuine, paid connection to the tutor, so reviews come from real customers.

What we don't allow

• Fake reviews, or reviews that aren't based on a real experience.
• Reviews written in exchange for payment, a discount, or any other reward, whether or not the reward is disclosed.
• Reviews we write or commission ourselves. We don't do this.
• Pressuring or rewarding someone into leaving a review, or trying to influence what it says.

To be clear: a tutor asking someone they've genuinely worked with for an honest review is completely fine, and a normal part of building a reputation. What's not allowed is paying or rewarding people for reviews, or trying to shape what they write.

Reviews brought over from First Tutors

Some tutors have older reviews imported from First Tutors after it closed. We only accept these where their origin can be verified, we label them clearly as imported, and we keep them in a separate section. Imported reviews do not count towards a tutor's star rating or their position in search results.

How we keep reviews honest

Reviews are checked automatically for signs of manipulation, and our team reviews anything that looks suspicious. Where a review breaks this policy we can hide it so it no longer shows or counts towards a tutor's rating. We may suspend accounts that try to game the system, and we report serious or repeated manipulation to the relevant authorities.

If a reviewer declares a safeguarding or serious safety concern on a one-star review, we hold that review from public view while our team reviews it. We aim to decide within a short published window (normally measured in days, not weeks), with a hard maximum from submission. The reviewer is told what is happening. Other automated checks do not withhold a review before publication.

Reviewers can edit or delete their own review for 30 days after posting. After that window, only moderation can remove a review. Teaching-style answers given with a review never overwrite a tutor’s own labels. Reporting a review

If you're the tutor a review is about, you can report it from your profile using the report link next to the review. Anyone else who believes a review is fake, abusive, or otherwise breaks this policy can email hello@tutorperch.com or use our contact form. Tell us which tutor and review you mean and why, and our team will look into it.
