About

Hi, I'm Joe – Mathematics & Philosophy Undergraduate at the University of Warwick

I am a third-year undergraduate, I have a real passion for mathematics and I love teaching. Whether you are aiming to build confidence in your GCSEs or achieve top marks in your A-levels, I am here to help you succeed.

My Experience & Track Record

  • I have hundreds of hours of experience delivering targeted, high-quality lessons to GCSE and A-level students, both online and in person.

  • I am incredibly proud to say that I have successfully helped all of my students meet or exceed their target grades.

  • Since time in school, where I naturally gravitated toward helping friends and classmates in lessons and after-school clubs, I have always loved tutoring. Today, I am frequently praised by students and parents for my clear, enthusiastic, and supportive explanations.

My Teaching Philosophy

Succeeding in maths requires a careful balance of theory and application.

It is not enough to have fluent computational skills without a deeper appreciation for what we are doing and why we are doing it. Likewise, conceptual understanding must be paired with sharp problem-solving abilities to actually excel in exams.

My teaching combines the two. I centre our lessons around accessible but challenging problems, working through them in parallel with clear, powerful explanations. This approach ensures my students leave with much more than a surface-level familiarity with specific skills. Instead, they build a deep understanding of the curriculum, see exactly how different ideas connect, and develop a strong, independent ability to tackle complex exam questions.

How My Online Lessons Work

My online lessons are highly effective, and students consistently find them just as engaging and productive as in-person tutoring.

  • Interactive Whiteboard: We use a shared online workspace where both the student and I can write on the same page, see each other's additions in real-time, and tackle problems collaboratively.

  • Live Video: We communicate face-to-face via a video call alongside the whiteboard, ensuring the lesson remains entirely interactive, focused, and personal.

How we verify these

Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:

  • Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
  • Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.

The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Joe tutored my son for a few months in the lead up to his maths GCSE exam. Joe has a good teaching style, breaking down difficult concepts into more manageable elements. He is also reliable, hard working and I would happily recommend him to other parents. The best compliment came from my son who said "I can understand concepts in a one hour session with Joe that I haven't been able to understand for the past few years at school". and is hardworking and reliable. Joe reliable, hard working I would strongly recommend him to other parents as he Joe was able to take detailed concepts and break them down into approachable fleixable reliable hands on deep teaching style

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback, Clare. I'm really glad my teaching style resonated with your son, it was truly a pleasure to work with him!
