About

Is your child saying "I understand it in class but I can't do it in the exam"?

That gap is the most common thing I see, and it's the thing I fix. Most students I meet don't have a knowledge problem. They have a method problem: they revise by re-reading, they don't know what the examiner is actually looking for, and they lose marks on questions they could do.

What I do

I tutor GCSE Maths and Science only. Nothing else. That means I know every specification point, every question style and every trick the exam boards use, and I've seen exactly where students go wrong on each one.

Every lesson is built around exam questions, not textbook chapters. Students learn the content, then immediately learn how to turn it into marks. I start each session with a quick recap quiz so nothing gets forgotten, and parents get regular updates on what we've covered and where their child is heading.

Results

I've been tutoring for 6 years and now do it full time, working with 50+ students a year. Results range from students who needed a secure pass to get onto their college course, to students who went into their exams aiming for 9s and got them. I've had students go up three grades in a few months once they finally had a method that worked.

Who I work with

Year 9 to Year 11, Foundation and Higher, AQA specification (other boards welcome for maths). All lessons are online over Zoom with students across the UK. I run small weekly group classes for Maths and for Science as well as 1:1, so there's an option that fits most budgets.

A bit about me

I have a degree in Medical Science and started tutoring after my own A-levels, so I remember exactly what it feels like to sit these exams. I'm calm, direct and honest with parents. If something isn't working I'll say so and change it.

Reviews from First Tutors

5.0 7 from First Tutors

Imported from Maisie D.'s First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.

How we verify these

Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:

  • Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
  • Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.

The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

My daughter really enjoys her sessions with Maisie and that’s saying a lot because she’s not in love with chemistry. Maisie is very relatable, patient, great at breaking things down and unlocking little ways to help remember things and encouraging whilst equally being challenging in just the right dose. I would definitely recommend Maisie as a tutor.

Maisie is a very good tutor for my son in maths and science. She is always punctual, well prepared, and helpful. She explains topics clearly and supports him well, which helps build both his understanding and confidence. I would definitely recommend her to other parents.

We had a wonderful experience with Maisie while she was helping my daughter prepare for her Biology A Level. From the very beginning, she was friendly, approachable, and easy to communicate with, which immediately put my daughter at ease. She was organised and professional, and made complex topics easy to understand. Many thanks for your help.

Maisie has been a fantastic tutor. She quickly identified the areas my child was struggling with and explained the topics in a clear way that finally made sense. She also focuses on exam technique, particularly the longer 5 and 6 mark questions. Since starting lessons with Maisie, my child has improved from a grade 5 to a 7 and their confidence has grown hugely. I would highly recommend her.

Maisie has been a fantastic tutor to our 16 year old studying for GCSE's. She is reliable, friendly and very easy to work with. My daughter has learned so well from her. She has loads of knowledge and doesn't waste any time but executes every hour with focus. She was able to give so much confidence to my daughter and provided support for her overall studies not just the one hour tutor sessions.
