About
I am an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher with over twenty two years of experience across both primary and secondary education. I have a degree in English and specialise in the subject, offering tailored support for students preparing for GCSE English, including focused exam techniques and strategies to boost confidence and performance.
I am known for my calm and gentle manner, which helps put students at ease and creates a positive, supportive learning environment where they feel comfortable to ask questions and build confidence.
Currently, I work as a private tutor, supporting children aged 5–15 across a range of subjects, as well as preparing pupils for 11+ entrance exams. I am passionate about tutoring and take pride in building strong relationships with my students, helping to develop their confidence, identify and address gaps in their learning, and stretch them to achieve their full potential. My students consistently make significant progress.
In addition to tutoring, I work as a supply teacher across all year groups and teach at an 11+ tuition centre. Previously, I spent eleven years teaching in a junior school, gaining extensive experience in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6. My teaching has consistently been graded as Good, with elements of Outstanding.
I offer engaging, supportive, and personalised lessons, along with practical exam tips and strategies, particularly for GCSE English, to help students feel confident and fully prepared.

Claire first tutored my eldest son James from year 6 until the end of year 8. James flourished through his math lessons at school and is now in top set at secondary school. My youngest is now lucky enough to have Claire as his tutor and he has just completed his SATS and through Claire's guidance felt very positive after taking these tests. 2 s prior to Oliver having his actual math paper Claire moved our scheduled lesson to the before so, Oliver could go through any last minute questions with her. Claire will always go out of her way to help where she can. Claire genuinely takes great care and interest so, when my boys have had math tests they are both really keen to let her know how they have got on. Claire is always so pleased to hear that they are feeling positive and her feedback when speaking to them is really encouraging. Claire will start her lesson by asking how Oliver is and what he doing at school which puts him at ease and really ready to start his lesson for the hour. The lesson ends with a math game which James always enjoyed as does Oliver. We are so lucky to have had Claire as a tutor, she is professional, well organized and has a very calm approach to her teaching.
