About
APPROACH TO TUTORING
My approach is to tailor my tutoring style to the student's needs. I am patient and encouraging, and have experience tutoring students with learning challenges (dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD). In addition, I have many years of experience tutoring students taking advanced classes and preparing for university courses.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Since 2003 I have been tutoring high school students of all abilities (and the occasional university student) in chemistry, mathematics, and physics. I specialize in tutoring the curriculum (N5, Higher, and Advanced Higher) of Qualifications Scotland (formerly the SQA). I am DBS-certificated and offer in-person or online tuition, and offer a £5 discount for the latter. References are available on request.
EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND
I have 23 years tutoring experience with the Qualifications Scotland curriculum and have a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Strathclyde, and Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Chemistry from the University of Glasgow. Before I started tutoring I spent ten years as a postdoctoral fellow conducting academic, government and private research.

Harry coming on very well. Harry said your very patient and go beyond with help. Harry feels things are beginning to make more sense. Not always easy but he would also if time like to touch on maths. Peter was very accommodating and was able to hold sessions both remotely and face. My son found Peter’s tuition very helpful indeed. He liked how he broke down topics and explained them. It really helped my son get a deeper understanding and build his confidence in Chemistry. Peter is very patient and knowledgeable. He has a lovely manner and gave my son the opportunity to identify areas he felt he needed the most support. He provided resources and directed him towards particular questions to practice between sessions. We also used Peter for some Physics sessions and again my son felt he gained a lot from these. I would not hesitate to recommend Peter and would most definitely use him again in the future.
