About Me and Teaching Experience

I’m an experienced and passionate History teacher with over 13 years’ teaching experience, including 7 years as a Head of History. I'm also a GCSE Examiner for Edexcel. My teaching has been judged Outstanding by Ofsted on two occasions, reflecting my commitment to high-quality teaching and student progress.

I hold QTS, a PGCE with Distinction and a 2:1 degree in History from Royal Holloway, University of London, alongside an Enhanced DBS.

I’m passionate about helping students become confident, capable historians and discover that History can be both fascinating and enjoyable. I now provide specialist online History tuition for KS3 and GCSE students through engaging small-group courses and bespoke 1:1 tuition.

I have extensive GCSE experience across topics including Elizabethan England, Weimar and Nazi Germany, the Cold War and Medicine Through Time. As Head of History, I led a department of 7 teachers and was responsible for curriculum development, assessment, teaching and learning, and GCSE outcomes.

This experience has given me a detailed understanding of both the subject and the skills students need to succeed at GCSE.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring is supportive, engaging and tailored to each student. I want students to feel confident asking questions, making mistakes and developing their understanding, while also being challenged to achieve their best.

Lessons are interactive and purposeful, using questioning, discussion, retrieval practice, quizzes, source analysis and exam-style activities to make learning active and memorable.

For GCSE students, I focus on developing both secure historical knowledge and the ability to explain, analyse and evaluate effectively. My aim is for every student to leave a lesson feeling more confident, knowing more and understanding how to improve.
