GCSE Maths & Science Tutor | 5th Year Medical Student | Proven Grade Improvements
About
Hi, I’m Jamal — a 5th-year medical student with over 5 years of tutoring experience, specialising in helping GCSE and KS3 students improve their grades, master exam technique, and build confidence.
My students consistently achieve Grades 7 – 9, with many making significant improvements (e.g. Grade 4 → Grade 9).
I work with a limited number of students to provide highly personalised, results-driven support.
Tutoring Experience
I have over 5 years of experience tutoring students from KS3 through to GCSE and A-Level, supporting learners of varying abilities — including high-achieving students as well as those working to significantly improve their grades.
In the 2025 GCSE exams, the majority of my students achieved Grade 7 or higher, reflecting consistent academic progress and strong exam performance.
Recent results include:
Grade 4 → Grade 9 in Biology, and Grade 7 in Chemistry
Maths students achieving Grades 7 and 8 through improved exam technique and confidence
Multiple students progressing from Grades 5/6 → Grade 7 across Maths, Biology, and Chemistry
I have experience with all major UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR, and tailor my teaching to match specific mark schemes, question styles, and exam expectations.
Alongside this, I have extensive experience teaching long-term students online, with many choosing to continue lessons throughout the academic year.
Tutoring Approach
My lessons are structured, engaging, and highly focused on improving exam performance and overall understanding.
I follow a clear, personalised approach for each student. After identifying strengths and gaps, I create a targeted plan designed to maximise progress efficiently.
Each lesson typically includes:
Clear, step-by-step explanations of challenging topics
Focus on exam technique and how to secure marks in assessments
Regular use of exam-style questions to build confidence and accuracy
Ongoing feedback to correct mistakes and reinforce understanding
I also place strong emphasis on developing effective revision strategies and independent study habits, so students can continue improving outside of lessons.
Progress is continuously monitored, and lessons are adjusted to ensure consistent improvement over time.
My teaching style is patient and supportive, while maintaining high expectations and a clear focus on results.

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

I highly recommend Jamal as a tutor for my son, who has had only three sessions so far. Even in this short time, he has created a positive and engaging learning environment. Jamal has a great understanding of math and effectively tailors lessons to my son's needs. He also keeps me informed about his progress, which I find very helpful. We look forward to continuing this journey with Jamal and are excited to see how my son develops further!

Jamal has been teaching my Y11 twin daughters for the past three weeks. So far he has been very reliable and knowledgable. They have been working through their areas of weakness and they plan to continue doing exam practice questions. They find his lessons very useful.

Jamal has really helped my son with maths and biology, 2 subjects that he has struggled with in school. Within the first few lessons my son feels much more confident, and looks forward to his lessons. He is really patient, and explains things in a very clear way. Would definitely recommend him as a tutor.

Jamal has excellent communication skills and both myself and Zach have found it easy to quickly settle in. Jamal is extremely organised and each week provides detailed reviews on how the lessons has gone, and what topics have been covered. My son is given homework in line with the topics covered in the lesson. The pace of the lesson is good and my son reports that Jamal's style means he can grasp things quickly and finds the lessons enjoyable.
Jamal N. replied
Thank you, Fran. Teaching Zach has been and continues to be a pleasure. He has shown an excellent approach to his lessons.
