About
About Me
I'm Hannah, a fully qualified chemistry teacher based in the Midlands. I have been tutoring full time since April 2025, and have six years of teaching and tutoring experience overall. I also hold an enhanced, up to date DBS certificate.
My tutoring journey began in 2020, when I worked as an Academic Coach at a sixth form college. I loved working 1:1 with students and helping them understand tricky concepts. The 'lightbulb' moment when a concept finally clicks was, and still is, one of my favourite things about my job!
After completing my teacher training in 2022, I taught chemistry at a grammar school for 2.5 years. This role gave me valuable teaching experience across the whole secondary age range. I took multiple cohorts through their GCSE and A-Level courses, and students in these groups achieved excellent results.
Since becoming a full-time online tutor, I have worked 1:1 with several GCSE and A-Level students in the lead up to their final exams, as well as with students who are homeschooled. I have also taught online revision courses to groups of up to 18 students. Students have given me excellent feedback, emphasising the impact my lessons had on their confidence.
Lessons and Teaching Style
My lessons normally begin with recall of prior knowledge. This could include content from recent lessons, topics that students haven't looked at for a while, or a mixture of both. The rest of the session depends on the student's individual needs - it may involve revising content, completing a past paper, or looking at a tricky homework task. Either way, I check for understanding throughout the lesson using questioning, and provide plenty of opportunities for independent practice.
My teaching style is calm and patient. If a student doesn't know an answer, I use questions to help guide them to it rather than telling them straight away. This helps to build students' confidence, and often makes them realise that they know more than they think they do!
I include analogies and real-world examples where I can help illustrate concepts. Most importantly, I aim to be encouraging and supportive at all times. If a student doesn't understand a concept, I am happy to keep going over it until they're feeling confident.
