About
I have been teaching for 30 years. I work as a secondary teacher and as a primary teacher. I have a great depth of knowledge and understanding in preparing students for exams and help to develop their confidence. Last year (2025) all my GCSE students achieved greater than their expected grades. My reviews are still with First tutors who I used for 15 years.
I prepare y6 students for their SATs and cover Maths and English.
My specialism is in Science and Maths, which is what I studied at University.
I have 2 grow-up children one is dyslexic but went on to get a first in physics, so I understand the need to prepare well to achieve your goals. I'm a great believer in a positive mindset and try to foster confidence in my students.

Reviews from First Tutors
Imported from Helen's First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.
How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Great knowledge of the syllabus. Understanding of topic areas achieved quickly which were not grasped in school

hi helen is tutoring my daughter in applied science, she is very friendly which makes learning easier for her. being taught by helen dose not feel like work as she finds it is enjoyable i think this is a really good point when looking for a tutor.even though my daughter walks straight in from school to start again for an hour or more tutoring she never complains this also shows that helen is a good tutor to have.

Helen is an excellent tutor who provided very valuable structured tuition for my son. We asked helen to come the night before his GCSE Maths exam to provide him with help in areas that he was struggling to understand, he felt confident about his exam after the session. Highly recommended and will certainly be in touch with Helen again.
