About
I studied Physics with Astrophysics at Royal Holloway College(part of London University). Using my deep physics and maths knowledge, together my life experience I have been tutoring and hopefully inspiring for 10 years now. I do both face to face and online tuition at GCSE and A-level with all boards.
My approach is to teach my students how to teach themselves. Show them ways to approach problems which will help them to successfully solve further and more difficult problems. Also to give them the intellectual study tools so they can find the information and skills they need to teach themselves without relying on AI. Thus, hopefully building their self confidence and revealing their innate ability .
My work history is different to most tutors, but it does show my young students how much fun and control of your life you can have if you work really hard when it counts. They don't know this yet, it's an important lesson for them to learn.
I set up my first business whilst at university and never looked back.
My main business was in manufacture and design and so with technology and techniques always changing and manufacturing becoming progressively more automated and technical, I had to self teach and also taught those around me. I sold that business and had a spell ,still self employed as an I architectural consultant and then a professional photographer.
When I wound down these activities it was suggested that I should not waste my knowledge and experience and I might find it intellectually rewarding to tutor the next generation.
I am so glad I did. As an astrophysicist I used maths to a greater complexity than is used virtually anywhere else. As the owner of a manufacturing business I implemented practical skills, innovated and taught others how to get the best from their skills.
Over this time I have acquired a deep insight into my subjects and I think I have ability to simplify complicated topics and maybe show how amazing these subjects are and hopefully inspire as we go along.

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Our daughter made lots of progress with John's tuition. She was struggling with GCSE Combined Science due to the magnitude of the coursework and her anxiety. John took time explaining things, and would then ask questions to make sure everything was clear. He was determined to help her improve in science and her knowledge and confidence grew. Over the last year she progressed from a predicted grade 4 to a grade 7/6 in her final results.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the exceptional tutoring that my son has received from John in combined science. John's approach to tutoring has been incredibly effective and supportive. He has a talent for breaking down complex scientific concepts into manageable and understandable parts, which has greatly helped my son grasp the material. John's sessions are always well-structured and engaging, making learning both enjoyable and productive. My son has shown notable improvement in his understanding and performance in science since he started working with John. He frequently mentions how much he enjoys the interactive and hands-on activities that John incorporates into their sessions. These methods have not only reinforced his knowledge but also sparked a genuine interest in the subject. John is always patient, approachable, and ready to provide additional explanations when needed. His dedication to his students' success is evident, and his encouragement has significantly boosted my son's confidence in his scientific abilities. Thank you, John, for your outstanding work and commitment. Your guidance and support have made a tremendous difference in my son's academic journey.

John has been tutoring my son Oliver for over a year now in both physics and mathematics. John has gone through topics that Oliver has found challenging. He has gone through practice questions with him to help reinforce what he has learnt and he has also given him guidance on how to revise for tests and exams. Since starting the tuition with John my son's confidence has grown and he is now progressing well in his A levels.

John gave tuition to two of my daughters for GCSE maths and science. Both were not natural mathamatcians and didn't like the subject. He engaged very well with both unwilling students and gave then confidence in the subject and in studying itself. Nice man, Great tutor. I would highly recommend

After only one lesson my son ( aged 12) feels more confident with maths . John was patient and gave praise , which I feel works best for my son. Encouraging him to enjoy maths and bring out the best in him has made him look forward to his next lesson with John . I highly recommend this tutor even after only one lesson.
