About
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University and worked for many years in the computer industry. I always enjoyed mathematics – something I passed on to my children, my son now working as a Maths teacher - and now find myself in demand as a one-to-one tutor. I am very patient and nurturing and aim to make the lessons enjoyable for my students. They are encouraged to work to their potential, whatever level that may be.
I find that many of the students who come to me lack confidence. They are often having problems at school because they have missed some vital techniques and now find themselves cast adrift. I begin at a level comfortable for them and at which they can achieve success. We then build on this foundation, fill in the gaps, and hopefully start to catch up at school. I will set homework if you wish.
I am equally comfortable with high achievers and have helped pupils to gain levels 8 and 9. Adults are very welcome too!

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Dear Julie Since coming to you now for all of this year, there has been a significant improvement in my daughter's attitude towards, and ability at, maths. She genuinely looks forward to her weekly sessions with you, and by your patient and nurturing demeanour she seems to have turned a corner and be making headway where before there was just frustration. You can never be sure how it's going to go with a tutor, but so far our experience with you has been excellent for which we are very grateful.

Julie is an extremely friendly and professional tutor. My daughter’s weakest subject always been Maths but after starting having lessons with Julie she really grown in confidence. She managed to achieve an amazing grade in her GCSE. I would definitely recommend Julie as a tutor.

I found Julie through this site and could not be more happy that we found her for my daughter Amy! She is such a calm and patient person and Amy is finally after years of hating maths and not understanding it in class, is finally beginning to enjoy it. She goes in to Julie's lessons and comes out of them with a smile ☺ Julie has always prepared her lessons for Amy beforehand and gear's them towards her needs. She even emails me websites she thinks may be of help at home that she finds. Amy also brings work she is finding difficult in class that week to Julie so she can have 1:1 help. This has proved so valuable. The classes in most schools these days are too large to help those that are really struggling. So my advise is to go with a tutor as soon as you can if you can afford to. I'm so pleased we found an excellent one straight away who is absolutely perfect for my daughter. I can not sing her praises enough! Thank you Julie!

Julie has been amazing in building my daughters confidence in gcse maths and her learning style meant they connected and worked well together for my daughter to get the best out of their time. Her grade raised by 3 grades from mocks to gcse results, I highly recommend Julie.

My year 11 son met with Julie to have a trial session. Julie was very pleasant but my son did not 'click' with her. I feel my son needs perhaps a firmer tutor to motivate him. No problem with Julie, just trying to find the right fit for my (reluctant to study) 15 year old whose GCSEs are fast approaching.

Thank you for your comments. I agree entirely; you must find a tutor that suits your son and I wish you well in your search.

Julie is an exceptional tutor who has exceeded our expectations in building our daughter Maya's confidence in Maths. In the past year, Julie has developed a close and supportive working relationship with Maya, which I believe has been key to the improvement reported by her Maths teacher and the increased confidence in her homeworking. The fact that she is on track to achieve or exceed her target GCSE grade for Maths says it all! Thank you, Julie!
