About
Teaching experience and qualifications:
I hold a BA (Hons) English with Education Degree (with Qualified Teacher Status) and I offer fun online, or face-to-face (in the comfort of your own home), tuition at times which suit you and your child's needs. I thrive on seeing children achieve their potential, my motto is: #keepingitfun!
I am a fully qualified school teacher and have been teaching for over 25 years; offering Primary and Secondary tuition for children in their own homes, schools and online, including international students across Asia and Europe, both with the English curriculum and learning English as a foreign language.
My degree specialism is English with Education, being trained in and taught all primary curriculum subjects. I have also led mathematics, music, religious education and science within schools, measurably improving their results each year.
I have taught in several schools, in both Primary and Secondary. This also includes planning, teaching and assessing children in Early Years (whole class, group boosters and one to one for children with Dyslexia and other SEND). I now work mainly as a private tutor, boosting children in English and/or Maths (for those home-schooled and in education) helping them surpass age related expectations.
Exam preparation:
I enthusiastically prepare children for success in their (I)GCSE English Language and Literature exams, English and Maths SATs (Yr2/6), 11+ 13+ 16+ Entrance Exams, Phonics tests (Yr1) and Times Tables tests (Yr4) with proven results. This prioritises building up self-confidence and gaining an improved attitude to learning.
Thanks to my tailored approach, my Independent school students have gained offers from many of the top public schools in England, including: Brighton College, Downe House, Wycombe Abbey, Latymer School and Sixth Form, St Mary's School (Ascot), Reeds ( inc scholarship offer), Ardingly, Cheltenham College, Wellington and Brambletye. Many of my students have won prize competitions in creative writing, having their work published in books and magazines.
My Tutoring Approach:
Once I have assessed your child, I create a bespoke curriculum reflecting on their specific areas of development and the national expectation for their age group. My aim is to help your child to have fun whilst learning and adopting an 'can do' attitude, which will serve them well beyond education. I identify their preferred style of learning and adapt lessons to reflect their personality and interests. Depending on age, I access both outdoor and indoor environments using games and activities to enhance learning and engagement.
As well as face to face tutoring, I also offer lessons via Microsoft Teams. This is both convenient for parents and students. They find this great fun, due to the fantastic learning resources prepared, tailored to individual interests and educational needs.
I set regular homework tasks, and assist with school homework, providing further resources for independent learning. I maintain close communication and feedback with parents (as well as your child's teachers where necessary). I am flexible with timings and arrangements, as I know family life can be busy!
Other services:
In addition, I offer help with university applications (including teacher training), and apprenticeships, including interview preparation, with proven success. I also offer one to one consultancy classes for English professionals, aiding and advising lesson and quality curriculum planning.

Imported from Lisa's First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.
How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Lisa is an excellent and highly effective tutor. She builds rapport with children very quickly and creates a warm, supportive and encouraging environment in which they feel confident and motivated to learn. Her lessons were well-structured, covering a wider range of core English skills, from reading aloud to exam-style essay writing, structure and literary analysis of fiction and non-fiction. Lisa is particularly strong at explaining concepts clearly. She provides detailed feedback with clear guidance on progress and practical recommendations for improvement. The children enjoyed their lessons very much!

Lisa is a fantastic tutor. She has been working with my 10 year old daughter to help her prepare for SAT. She has been doing both Maths and English and my daughter has gained great confidence and I have seen her practice papers improve greatly. Lisa provides weekly feedback to parents and her lessons are well planned, tailored to the individual and she is wonderfully engaging and fun. My daughter enjoys her sessions, which is lovely to see. Our sessions are via zoom and this is just as effective in my opinion. I would highly recommend Lisa.

I contacted Lisa for our 13 year old son who was lacking confidence and skills in his English in year 9. Our son was unsure at the start and not really behind our decision to get him a tutor, but from the very first session, our son has loved it. Lisa has put him at ease sraight away and they get on like a house on fire. After the first session our son was so excited to come and tell us all the stuff he had learnt in the session, stuff he had never picked up in school before. Lisa is also helping our son backfill any areas he might have missed on his Maths too. Our son looks forward to Lisa's tutor sessions every week and she has been a great motivator to him to keep working hard in his studies and his personal life too. Lisa is exceptionally helpful and very easy to talk to as a parent, when we have raised any concerns we have had with our son. I couldnt recommend Lisa highly enough. She is great at what she does and worth every pennie.

My daughter is 9 years old and she doesn't like Maths and has fallen behind. She had 2 online sessions so far with Lisa. My daughter really enjoys it and for the first time I heard her saying Maths is fun! She said she really likes Lisa's Maths sessions and she looks forward to the next session. Thank you Lisa for helping my daughter and giving her such enjoyable Maths sessions. (^_^)

Lisa is fantastic! Jakob is already improving but more importantly looks forward to seeing her each week - she makes this fun and interesting. I feel assured that Jakob's confidence and ability in his school work will really blossom as a result of Lisa's skill as a teacher and her overall enthusiasm and energy. I could not be happier. Thank you. Nick

Lisa made an instant connection to our 8 year old daughter Mia, she is professional, reliable and friendly. After just a couple of lessons we have started to see great improvements with Mia’s English work. Lisa keeps Mia engaged with her fun and educational learning for the full hour. We are so happy Mia is enjoying a boast in her learning. Highly recommend

The biggest fear we had was our son not engaging with a tutor and that fear has not come to fruition. Lisa is warm and has built a good relationship with Rhys, where he enjoys the lessons with Lisa and gets on with it, where as with a previous tutor, he would not embrace the support at all. We can see that he is improving and enjoying his time with Lisa, we are very happy.

Lisa has been brilliant with our 7 year old who can be shy and quiet with new people. Lisa makes every lesson feel like playtime rather than a lesson. My 7 year old looks forward to each lesson and we have already seen his confidence in reading develop in such a short space of time thanks to Lisa's teaching. I have no hesitation in recommending Lisa for private tuition; we certainly will be using her excellent tuition in the future.
