A-level Chemistry tuition

I am an experienced A-level Chemistry teacher with 19 years’ experience in a Sixth-Form setting. My teaching career has been focused entirely on post-16 Chemistry, allowing me to develop deep subject knowledge and a detailed understanding of the demands of A-level study and assessment.

I specialise in OCR B Salters Chemistry and also offer tuition for OCR A. I help students develop a secure understanding of Chemistry, improve their exam technique and become more confident when tackling unfamiliar or demanding questions.

My teaching is tailored to the individual student. I identify gaps in knowledge, misconceptions and recurring mistakes, then explain the underlying chemistry clearly and carefully.

Sessions can focus on:

• difficult topics and calculations

• practical and analytical skills

• organic mechanisms

• current schoolwork and revision

• exam technique and the precise wording required in examination answers

Qualifications and assessment experience

I have a First Class BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Biological Chemistry and a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education. I also have extensive experience of assessment and examination marking, giving me a strong understanding of how students can demonstrate their knowledge effectively and avoid losing marks unnecessarily.

EPQ support

I also have experience supervising and assessing Extended Project Qualifications. I can support students with developing a focused research question, planning and managing their project, evaluating sources, structuring their writing and reflecting on the research process.

My aim is not simply to help students memorise answers, but to help them understand the chemistry well enough to apply their knowledge accurately and independently.
