About me

I’m an English tutor based in Twickenham, London.

I’ve been teaching English for 10 years. I hold a BA in Creative Writing, a PGCE in Secondary English, QTS and a TEFL

As a tutor, I’ve successfully helped students to secure coveted places and scholarships at top schools at most entry points but primarily through 11 and 13 Plus exams: students have received offers from many top UK schools such as St Paul’s, Westminster, Hampton and the City of London.

I've helped students secure top grades in both GCSE English Language and Literature. And I've helped students leap four grades from their mock exams.

I cover all aspects of English, but I particularly enjoy helping students with creative writing and have a keen personal interest in Shakespeare.

Teaching background

I found my love for teaching out in Beijing where I taught English as a Second Language.

There I also tutored for an education consultancy helping prepare students for entrance exams.

I found helping students prepare for their 11 Plus exams very fulfilling and returned to London in 2019, where I grew up, to complete a PGCE in Secondary English.

Then I taught in prep schools and secondaries around London for a couple of years before deciding to return to what I love most: tutoring.

Teaching methodology

I aim to both help students gain top marks in their exams and simplify learning English.

From my experience in the classroom, students often whizz from task to task. The benefit of one-to-one tuition is that students have the time they need to develop key skills. That's why classes are typically devoted to individual topics and skills. Lessons are sequenced so they build on or complement each other and students follow units of work to cover topics comprehensively.

Additionally, I know students need to read model responses before they can attempt to write top grade essays or stories themselves, but often won’t have access to good models. That’s why I write with my students during lessons, and through this collaborative approach, I’ve found students really excel academically.
