About
About me
I'm Yousaf, a Manchester-based tutor with a first-class Master's in Mechanical Engineering. I work as an engineer and have tutored maths and science alongside my career for seven years.
Tutoring began as something I did during university and became the part of my week I most look forward to. There's a specific moment when a student stops copying a method and starts seeing why it works, I've never got tired of it.
What I teach
Preschool, KS1, KS2 and KS3 : maths and science, including SATs preparation
GCSE : maths and science, all major boards, foundation and higher tier
A-Level : maths and physics, including mechanics, calculus and the applied modules students find hardest
A-Level Further Maths
My approach
I start by finding where the difficulty actually began. A GCSE student stuck on algebra is usually missing something from primary; an A-Level physics student struggling with mechanics is often fighting the maths, not the physics. Drilling past papers over an unaddressed gap wastes everyone's time, so the first session is diagnostic, a short assessment and a conversation about what feels hardest.
From there I build a plan around the specification, teaching from the underlying idea outward. I ask students to explain their reasoning back to me, because following a method and using it under exam pressure are different skills. I also teach how examiners award marks, not just how to reach an answer.
Why the engineering matters
Every student eventually asks what any of this is for. I can answer that, because I use it. Mechanics, calculus, forces and thermodynamics aren't topics I revised once for an exam, they're things I work with. Students engage differently when the person teaching them clearly finds the material useful rather than merely examinable.
Practical details
Sessions are one-to-one online. Every student starts with a free 20-minute conversation and short assessment. After that I'll tell you plainly what I think your child needs including if that's fewer sessions than you were expecting.
Rates: £30/hour for preschool through GCSE, £35/hour for A-Level maths and physics, £50/hour for Further Maths. Block booking discounts available.

Discount
Progress in maths and science comes from consistency, not one-off sessions. Gaps close over a run of weeks, so I price blocks to make that commitment easier.
Preschool, KS1, KS2, KS3 and GCSE — standard rate £30/hour
Block | Price | You save |
|---|---|---|
6 sessions | £170 | £10 |
12 sessions | £325 | £35 |

20 sessions | £595 | £105 |
A-Level Further Maths — standard rate £50/hour

12 sessions | £540 | £60 |
20 sessions | £850 | £180 |
Which block to choose
6 sessions closes a specific gap, a weak topic before a mock, or a shaky area holding back everything built on top of it.
12 sessions is a steady weekly work. This is what most of my students book, and it's where I see the clearest change in grades and confidence.
20 sessions covers January through to the summer exams for GCSE and A-Level students, with a session held every week through the exam run.
Terms
Blocks are paid in advance and valid for 6 months.
Unused sessions are refundable at any point, minus sessions already taken at my standard rate.
24 hours' notice to reschedule; sessions moved with notice are never lost.
The free 20-minute assessment comes first. I won't take a block booking until we've both agreed it's the right fit and if I think your child needs fewer sessions than a block, I'll say so.
