About Me

I'm Siân, a professional online A Level Maths tutor specialising in helping ambitious students build the confidence and problem-solving skills needed to reach their potential in A Level Maths.

I work particularly well with students who are willing to put in the effort but want support turning that effort into higher grades. Many of my students understand the content but need help developing the confidence, exam technique and problem-solving skills required for the most challenging questions.

I began tutoring while studying for my own GCSEs and continued throughout sixth form, university and my corporate career. After graduating from the London School of Economics with a First-Class degree in Mathematics with Economics, I spent several years working as a Business Analyst in Risk Management before deciding to tutor full-time five years ago.

Since then, I have specialised in A Level Maths, which allowed me to build an extensive library of resources and refine an approach tailored specifically to the demands of the A Level syllabus. I also have experience tutoring GCSE Maths, Further Maths and undergraduate students transitioning to quantitative subjects.

My Approach

My lessons are focussed yet relaxed, ensuring the student is comfortable to make mistakes which they can then learn from. Students are encouraged to be curious and ask as many questions as possible to allow them to develop the intuition and depth of understanding required for effective problem-solving.

Lesson structure varies depending on the students’ starting point and learning style, but fundamentally all lessons achieve a consistent objective. We begin with a clear understanding of the content, thoroughly consolidated through simple applications. We then work through progressively trickier questions until the student is confident and capable of completing exam-level questions with pace, accuracy, and independence. By the time we move into focussed exam preparation, students are already comfortable tackling exam-style questions independently, allowing us to concentrate on refining exam technique rather than learning content from scratch.

Alongside developing mathematical understanding, we also work on the habits that lead to success in A Level Maths. That means building the confidence to attempt unfamiliar questions, developing the perseverance to stick with difficult problems rather than giving up too quickly, and recognising that mistakes are a valuable part of learning. Every mistake made in a lesson is one less mistake to make in the exam.

Many students are willing to work hard but aren't always sure how to make the best use of their time. I provide the structure, accountability and guidance to help them make consistent progress throughout the year, so they arrive at exam season feeling prepared, confident and ready to perform at their best.

Ultimately, my goal is for students to leave lessons with the understanding and self-belief to tackle unfamiliar questions independently.
