About
My name is Robert and I’m an enthusiastic and friendly, well qualified and experienced teacher of French, Spanish and English based in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. I have over 25 years of teaching experience having been a classroom teacher in both the state and Independent sector for most of my adult working life. Schools where I have taught include Wellington College in Crowthorne, Berkshire; Merchant Taylors’ School in Moor Park, Hertfordshire and Gayhurst Preparatory School in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire.
I am also an experienced GCSE Examiner and Marker for the Edexcel Board. While marking can be demanding, the role is highly beneficial for my own classroom teaching and tutoring and enormously rewarding.
I provide individual in person one to one lessons, either at home or at the student’s home if within commutable distance. I also provide online lessons via Zoom if preferred.
Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. My aim as a languages teacher is to foster my students curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Through my teaching I enable my students to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. My teaching also provides opportunities for my students to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in the original language.
Teaching languages is something I enjoy passionately and I know that with the right support and increased confidence, students can achieve their full potential. My style and approach is relaxed and informal and my aim is to focus on the students needs and to make language learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience, whether the student is with me for help with their school exams or whether it’s a more mature student wishing to master French or Spanish for pleasure, business or relocating reasons.
Witnessed my students become passionate about a country as they delve into its language and culture and revel in their newfound ability to communicate is uniquely rewarding.

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Over the past four months, our son has been attending weekly sessions with Rob to prepare for a French GCSE. Rob quickly assessed his needs and built up an excellent rapport with him. Without hesitation, we would recommend Rob as a thorough professional, committed to our son's learning and clearly able to apply his classroom experience to one-to-one tuition.
