I have been working in education since 2000 and have worked with many types of students from KS3 to adult learners. I have worked in a different educational establishments, the latter part in local schools and with an agency doing teaching work.

I have worked in private tutoring since 2010 and enjoy the one to one delivery of lessons, building a learning environment and seeing a student gain confidence in their abilities. I have really focused on GCSE exam work during the last 10+ in both English and Mathematics.

I think one to one can be more intense that group work, but it allows the tutor to get to the root of problems such as maths misunderstandings, grammar issues, missed lessons at school -so there may be a blank in that area allowing the student to 'catch up'. Making connections in that learning, so that the student can see subjects are all connected and gaps of knowledge can be the difference in grades of exam outcomes.

I use interactive whiteboards for maths, so that the student can write their own responses, or I can write for those who prefer that too. I do encourage working on maths together, I don't particularly do the lecture style - as that doesn't help with one to one. I will explain a topic, work together on that topic and encourage a student to complete work either together or by themselves with supervision. I am re-doing my A-level maths in keeping with current updates to the course and for enjoyment!

For English, I mostly use google docs with an assigned document for a student, with their own login and they can access at any time to do homework if they wish, or parents to see what they have been doing. We work together on English work from SPAG, exam work and coursework. I have helped adult students with work related courses and Functional Skills. I am familiar with all the GCSE exam boards from AQA to Eduqas, etc.
