I am an experienced Mathematics tutor with a PhD in Mathematics and around 30 years of teaching experience, including 16 years of private one-to-one tutoring.

I teach Mathematics and Further Mathematics across a wide range of levels, including National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher, GCSE, A-Level and university-level Mathematics. I work with students both online and in person and tailor each lesson to the individual student rather than following a fixed approach.

A large part of my tutoring focuses on helping students understand topics they may have struggled with in school, building their confidence and preparing effectively for examinations. I regularly work through past-paper questions, identify gaps in understanding and then focus lessons on the areas where the student can make the greatest improvement.

I have supported students preparing for important school examinations, university entry requirements and conditional offers, as well as students who simply want to strengthen their mathematical ability.

My teaching style is patient and supportive, but I also encourage students to work independently and explain their reasoning. I believe that understanding why a method works is much more valuable than simply memorising a procedure.

My qualifications include a PhD in Mathematics, an MSci in Mathematics, a BSc in Mathematics and Physics, and a Bachelor of Education. I am also PVG checked.

Whether a student is aiming for a higher grade, preparing for an upcoming exam or finding a particular area of Mathematics difficult, I adapt the lessons around their goals and current level of understanding.
