About
I am a very experienced private tutor and newly retired high school science teacher, having worked at several different high schools in the North West for over 30 years.
Now that I am newly retired, I have the advantage of being fully up to date with all exam requirements and current methodolgy whilst having the time and energy to devote to my tutees.
I specialise in A Level and GCSE Physics.
I also tutor chemistry and maths to GCSE.
My students always become highly motivated learners and make fantastic progress.
I am an enthusiastic and supportive tutor with very high expectations of progress and achievement. I break down and explain concepts very effectively, enabling a clear understanding of each topic, and develop exam techniques in order to gain maximum marks. My lessons are very interactive and will always include an agreed topic to study and exam questions to explore. I concentrate very much on developing good relationships with students in order to encourage discussions and to enjoy learning.
I am experienced at encouraging the understanding and exam technique needed to achieve the highest exam grades possible. My students have all given me extremely positive feedback and highlight how my enthusiasm, knowledge and ability to break down and explain difficult concepts in Physics, have really helped them to quickly gain more confidence and a deeper understanding.
Always remember physics is fun!
I am a family man with 3 children, all of whom are now working in Finance. I live in Standish, Wigan.

Imported from Sean's First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.
How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

I felt that Sean approached the role more as a vocational activity rather than a committed teaching engagement. During the short period in which he taught my son, lessons were repeatedly cancelled or rearranged at very short notice. These changes were due to golf overrunning, football matches with kick-off n several i was only informed on the day of the scheduled lesson. In addition, being away for the week is something that would have been known in advance, yet this was not communicated in a timely manner. Only the day of the schedule lesson. This pattern demonstrates a lack of respect for our time and a lack of commitment to my son’s GCSE preparation. On this basis, the service provided did not meet the agreed expectations, and I therefore expect a full refund of the finder’s fee.
Sean replied
Many apologies Linda it is such a busy time of year and sorry that I've needed to cancel at short notice. I'm sorry you feel that you don't want to continue as Dylan was making some really good progress. I will contact you to make this right and we will find an outcome you are happy with. Sean

Thanks to Sean for his tutoring with our grandson .He always did more than the allotted time and our grandson found him easy to get on with and explained things better than his college teachers. Sean was willing to set the agenda or leave that to Ivan .He was flexible . He provided past papers and gave Ivan some exam tips which proved useful .Ivan went into the exams far more confident and seemed happy with his performance. Sean was happy to work round dates to be available.

Sean is good with communication regarding timings and topics. He has been very helpful to both of my children with their A-Level and GCSE exam preparation. Topics are well explained owing to his pre-lesson preparation.

Sean is incredibly knowledgeable & offers a very relaxed learning environment for my son. He is extremely good at explaining the elements my son has not understood at sixth form. I would highly recommend - I definitely think Sean has improved my son's grades already.

Sean's been brilliant over the last 7-8 months helping my daughter with her A level physics. Very freindly and welcoming, flexible to fit in extra lessons if needed, excellent knowledge and experience, calm and good at explaining concepts. Would always acommodate whatever topics she wanted to cover and offered help via email outside of her hourly session if she needed it. He really boosted my daughters confidence in the subject. I would highly recommend Sean to anyone wanting some help with their studies.

I would highly recommend Sean for tuition. Sean currently teachers my daughter GCSE Maths and she is certainly finding her maths topics much easier to understand. Excellent!
