Private Piano and Music Theory Tutor
About
I am an experienced and qualified piano and music theory teacher. I qualified as a choir conductor and pianist at Moscow State Open Pedagogical University in Russia and I have been teaching in the UK for over 20 years.
My current students range from ages 5-75 with all levels of experience ranging from Beginners, Refreshers and Advanced. I teach children from beginners making it fun whilst taking them through grades for piano and music theory whilst at school. I teach older clients either wanting to learn from the beginning, wanting to help their children learn, play for enjoyment or refresh their knowledge. I help children to gain scholarships for senior school and to take part in Music Competitions.
I mainly work through ABRSM and pride my work through assisting my students gain high grades. I offer teaching for beginner level through to grade 8 in piano and Music Theory. I offer all styles of music with personal favourites classical, jazz and modern. I encourage my students young and old to take part in my annual concert, allowing them to perform and experience the joy of playing in front of an audience.

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

I really enjoy my lessons with Sonya even when she tells me to go back a step and learn to be more accurate. I know I’ll play better in the long run.

After just two brief yet very intensive rehearsals Sofya accompanied my 11 yo son during his solo violin performance on Springboard music festival in Brighton. She is fantastic accompanist, extremely reliable, professional and friendly. It was a great pleasure to deal with Sofya and we hope to do it again.

I’m an experienced pupil and am happy to have found Sofya. She is bringing lots of insights to my playing. She is reliable and also flexible as I sometimes have to change lesson times. I’m enjoying lessons with Sofya and learning a lot.
