I'm a fully qualified teacher with 27 years of maths teaching and Head of Faculty experience in highly academic schools. I have a first-class degree from Liverpool University and a PGCE with qualified teacher status in Mathematics. I believe that students enjoy maths when they can do maths - that's where my energy goes. My teaching philosophy is that we only really learn those things that we think hard about and we can only think hard when we are confident, calm and focussed.

I can offer high-quality GCSE, A level and Further Maths A level tuition along with EPQ health checks or taught tutorials. I focus on clear explanations, tailored practice, memory boosting recall work and confidence building feedback. I have many years of experience and have reflected on educational research throughout my career to hone my teaching and students’ learning. I am equally at home working with students who are high flying University maths candidates or those who are just clinging on by their fingertips. I forewent academic offers to become a teacher; it has been my vocation ever since both in the classroom and tuition settings.

I have extremely high professional standards for both my teaching and student progress. I work very hard behind the scenes so the student experiences an organised, clear and structured tutorial that allows them to relax and develop. I will also respond positively to queries that a student has in a tutorial. If it can be solved quickly we will diagnose the exact issue and move forwards with clear explanations and practice questions - if not then we will schedule it in for the next session and I will work on a resource in the meantime.

Expect to work hard and interact - it won't just be a lecture! I know how busy you are in exam years but to maximise your recall and skill development I will set some work for you to look at each week. If you can buy a few A3 mini whiteboards to work on too all the better - they're really helpful. I'll advise if needed.

I will work with groups of two but those students must be aiming towards very similar grades (one grade difference) in the same exam board. If this is not the case then individual tutorials will be much more effective.
