About
Hi, I qualified as a secondary school maths teacher, (B.Ed in Mathematics) in the 1990s and have since been teaching maths and numeracy in both schools, colleges and also adult education, gaining a wealth of teaching experience & knowledge of the subject.
For the past few years, I have been tutoring privately, students of all ages & ability levels and find it the most rewarding & effective way to deliver the subject successfully, for both student and tutor.
My main area of teaching mathematics is at GCSE level (both Higher & Foundation) and I also cover the international iGCSE. I have experience of teaching the recent 2017 Maths syllabus, that has been in place over the last few years and have used the AQA, OCR and Edexcel Pearson exam boards regularly with an excellent pass rate.
In addition to GCSE Maths, I have taught at all ability levels ranging from Key Stage 2 & 3 up to Advanced level and recently have been teaching Adult Functional Skills Maths from Entry level up to level 3 in adult education. I also invigilate exams for JCQ from time to time.
For learners, I can either tutor from my home or at the home of the student, if based locally nearby - although petrol expenses may be added depending on the mileage.
For Online tutoring, I currently use Zoom, Skype or FaceTime, (whichever method you prefer) and relevant questions/worksheets for lessons, will be forwarded on as required. Each person will have an individual learning plan based on their own needs and will be taught at their own pace.
As well as individual lessons, students can email me for additional help if needed. I have a friendly & patient approach with all my learners and find working on a one to one level is much less intimidating for the learner than a classroom environment and quickly helps the student gain confidence in his or her subject.
For any casual adult learners - I am happy to cover the basic key stages in maths up to and including High Level GCSE and/or any of the Functional Skills adult numeracy levels.
For Entrance exams, however, I just specialise in the 11+ maths and non-verbal reasoning sections.

I would recommend Ursula. She has a lovely nature and is engaging, my son is progressing with his maths which is really important. He is showing more confidence due to the support Ursula is giving him. She is very good at communicating and her services were easy to find and set up. Very please customer.

My daughter is enjoying her sessions with Ursula, and her confidence has already improved. In a short time they have established a productive and trusting working relationship. Ursula has been working with my daughter for a few months now. During this time my daughter's confidence has grown noticeably and she has started doing a lot better in maths at school. Ursula successfully fills the gaps in my daughters understanding and covers age appropriate topics at the required levels so sometimes she is also teaching skills/ knowledge that has not been covered at school (for whatever reason). My daughter looks forward to her maths tuition and always comes away smiling. She says that she likes the way Ursula explains things to her. I feel that we are very lucky to have discovered Ursula. Her knowledge of what needs to be taught and bank of resources are also great. She sends the work on ahead of the lessons so that anything that needs photocopying can be prepared in advance and communicates well so that she is able to match her work with the topics being taught at school. Being an experienced teacher myself, I know that I can recommend Ursula with full confidence to anyone else looking for maths tuition.

Ursula is very friendly but still commands an authority over my grandson that he respects. She works with him to find out what he needs most support in, brings relevant work sheets, explains "how to" in easy to understand terms and has been a great additional resource as exams loomed. She is always on time and very student focussed. Thank you Ursula - exam results not know yet but will keep you informed. ps my grandson is 12 (year 7) just to give you an idea of how well Ursula works with this age.

Ursula has been offering maths tutoring for my daughter in Year 11. Ursula initially made an assessment of my daughter’s needs/level and has supported her to work on specific areas she had found difficult. Ursula always prepares for the lesson in advance and sends worksheets the day before the lesson. My daughter has grown in confidence and has learnt a great deal.
