Drums tutors
1 UK tutor who teach Drums.
Drums in the UK context overwhelmingly means kit, taught through RSL Awards / Rockschool (dominant), Trinity Rock & Pop, or Trinity Classical's combined Drum Kit and Percussion offering. Orchestral percussion (ABRSM Percussion) is a separate skill and a separate teacher pool. The grade ladder runs Debut / Step through Grades 1-8 to Diplomas, with Rockschool the de-facto standard for contemporary kit teaching. Typical starting age is six or seven for limb-independence and kick-pedal reach, with graded exams from around eight onwards. Tutoring helps most with limb independence around Grade 2-3, with double-kick technique for rock-leaning students, and with reading drum notation, often skipped when learning by ear, which surfaces as a gap at Grade 4+. The home-practice question is the recurring parent issue: electronic kits with mesh heads and headphones are the standard answer for flats and terraced houses; acoustic kits past Grade 3 generally need a garage or external practice space.
