Mechanics appears two ways across the UK. In Scotland it's a stand-alone Advanced Higher (Mathematics of Mechanics) sat alongside or instead of Advanced Higher Mathematics, covering kinematics, dynamics, energy methods, simple harmonic motion and momentum at the depth of a first-year university mechanics module. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland it's the Mechanics paper or modules within A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths (vectors, projectile motion, moments, statics, dynamics), examined as a fraction of the overall Maths grade, with the exact weighting set by board (Edexcel, AQA, OCR, OCR MEI). Tutoring helps most with the bridge from school-physics intuition to maths-led problem solving (free-body diagrams, sign conventions, calculus-of-motion) and with the longer multi-step questions where a clean diagram is half the answer.
