Trumpet tutors

Trumpet tuition runs through ABRSM (Brass), Trinity Classical and LCME. The Bb trumpet is the standard student instrument; cornet is interchangeable at lower grades and is the entry point in much of the British brass-band tradition. Typical starting age is eight to nine for lip development and adult front incisors. Tutoring helps most with embouchure endurance and lip stamina (a hard ceiling early on), with high-register playing above the staff at Grade 4+, and with tonguing techniques (single, double, triple) from Grade 5+. ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory prereq applies. The brass-band tradition in the North and Midlands runs parallel to the graded-exam pathway and uses treble-clef transposition for cornet and tenor horn, so ask the parent which tradition the student wants to enter, since the notation conventions diverge. Look for tutors familiar with the chosen path.
