Two Tutorperch magpies on either side of a weekly calendar, one holding a graduation-cap mug and the other a house mug, as the Wednesday 3pm slot where both their free times overlap lights up.
Community Update By Robert S.

Development update, 4th September - 23rd October

Parents and tutors can now share the times that suit them inside a conversation and see at a glance when they're both free. Tutors can also ask us to add a subject we don't list yet, and some smaller updates as we continue to improve tutor and parent experience.

  1. Share when lessons could work. We've often seen tutors spend a lot of time going back and forth with parents to work out availability. Parents can now include their availability for a typical week in their first message. When tutors reply, they can add their own availability, and we'll show a grid of the times when they're both free. Try it from Find a tutor . We decided against a fixed availability calendar in your profile because it's easy for it go out of sync with your daily life. Each time you're asked for your availability it will remember your last so you can check and edit it before sending. You can personalise your availability to the enquiry and offer times that suit that lesson and that area. Your weekly routine stays private, seen only by families who have contacted you.

  2. Request a subject. Tutors who can't find a subject in the profile editor can now ask us to add it directly from their profiles. Type the subject, choose "Request it", and we'll email you back. We've also added Python, Excel, SQL, coding for kids, elocution, public speaking, personal statements and dissertations. Chess and these new subjects use Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels instead of school years. Your profile editor

  3. Small things.

  • New-message emails have a link to archive the conversation when there's nothing more to say. Threads can also be archived in the ‘messages’ section of your profile.

  • More tools for parents -  53 subjects now have exam board information, past papers and grade boundaries linked to the tutor pages. See an example: GCSE maths tutors.

  • Tutor pages load faster.

  • A smarter search box. Typing "GCSE maths Leeds" now searches for that subject, level and place instead of matching words in tutors' bios. A typo is corrected ("Showing results for geography"), and a search with no results explains why.

  • SEND badges and teaching style were live on the website early October. Families can now see a tutor’s SEND badge, the need areas they support and how they teach. You can filter subject and city pages by SEND need area, SEND badges and teaching style. You can find more information on the SEND Badges here.

If something's broken, missing or awkward, tell us in the feedback section of the forum or email us directly. We read every message.
