About
Hi, Im Lauren, an enthusiastic, friendly and supportive tutor, teaching Maths, Cello and Saxophone. I have experience teaching pupils of all ages and abilities, including SEN. A lot of pupils come to me to help build their confidence, as well as knowledge and skills, as I am friendly and encouraging, and sensitive to each individual’s learning style.
I am also available to play for weddings and functions, having played a range of Popular chart music, Disney, Classical, Jazz, and Celtic Folk music for concerts and events in the past.
Experience: I have been teaching the Cello and Saxophone for over 15 years now, both as a peripatetic instrument teacher in schools, and privately. I teach all ages, from Primary, and Secondary education, to adult pupils, and have experience teaching all abilities from complete beginners to Grade 8 standard.
I tutor Mathematics for pupils at KS2 through to GCSE level, and additionally adults wanting to better their basic mathematics skills or who need help preparing for certain entrance exams. I have experience volunteering as a Mathematics TA in several primary and secondary schools, but have been a private tutor for the last 6 years.
Approach: I am a very approachable and enthusiastic tutor in both Music and Mathematics, and believe that both subjects are highly beneficial in life.
I teach Guildhall Trinity, Associated Board, and Music Teacher Board music qualifications, and believe that it is imperative to teach not only the instrumental techniques needed to play scale sets and pieces, but also to ensure the pupil thoroughly understands all aspects of the aural tests and musical theory needed also. Regular performance opportunities (solo, duet, and ensemble) are also provided and encouraged, to develop the pupils' performance skills and allow them to build their confidence playing in front of an audience.
I endeavour to plan my Mathematics lessons with many different creative aspects, to catch the attention of the pupil, inspire, and encourage them to enjoy maths. I take a methodical approach, helping to show pupils how to set their work out as clearly as possible, and ensuring they show their working, and understand each and every step of obtaining the solution to the mathematical problem. I think it is also good for the pupil to learn several different methods for working out, so that they can explore and find which method works best for them, as not all people learn in the same way. I have experience teaching many Exam boards and qualifications for maths, including SATs, 11+, GCSE: Edexcel, OCR, AQA, and Functional Skills.

Lauren has been great so far. She's always very prompt and the sessions don't feel rushed. She sends lesson plans and material beforehand so we can be prepared. My daughter seems to be benefiting from the sessions (although we've not quite been doing them for a term yet).

Lauren has been tutoring my daughter maths for nearly 6mths using a mixture of face to face and online sessions. My daughter has made great progress and Lauren has really boosted her confidence for tests. Maisie is really enjoying her Maths lessons with Lauren. Maisie has grown in confidence due to Lauren making her feel that she can do Maths. Maisie is feeling a lot more positive about her GCSE and believes that she will now pass whereas before she started her lessons with Lauren she was very negative and frustrated that she could not se a way forward. Lauren was a brilliant find for us and Maisie as she has made Maisie feel she can achieve. I would thoroughly recommend Lauren as a tutor .
