Expert English Tuition from KS3 to A Level — Tailored, Warm, and Proven to Deliver Progress
About
With over 14 years of teaching practice, 13 years of private tutoring experience and six years as a Key Stage 3 Middle Leader, I bring depth, structure, and genuine warmth to every lesson. I specialise in GCSE English, while also supporting learners preparing for KS2 SATs and A Level English Literature, ensuring continuity and expertise across the full English curriculum. As an examiner for AQA, Eduqas, and national SATs, I offer students invaluable insight into how examiners think and what high‑level responses truly look like.
Every pupil begins with a clear baseline test, allowing me to tailor each lesson precisely to their needs — from literacy foundations to advanced analytical writing. My teaching style is friendly, organised, and purposeful, with regular homework, assessment points, and personalised feedback that build confidence and measurable progress. I pride myself on forming excellent relationships with both students and their parents/carers, ensuring families feel fully informed, involved, and supported throughout their child’s learning journey.
After the unexpected closure of the tutoring website I worked on for over a decade, I chose to continue independently, offering the same high‑quality, student‑centred tuition that families have trusted for years. My commitment remains the same: to help every learner feel understood, motivated, and capable of achieving exceptional results.

Reviews from First Tutors
Imported from Carly's First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.
How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Carly has been amazing, she has made tutoring enjoyable for my 15 year old son whilst maintaining his focus and confidence. We have seen a marked increase in mock results with her support and guidance and has been on hand whenever we needed extra guidance. Very grateful we came across Carly she has been the perfect tutor for us and would highly recommend.

Carly has been working with my son for 9 months now and the rapport she has built with him is outstanding, he isn't the easiest child to keep on task and she does a brilliant job managing him. Without her help he definitely wouldn't be at the current level of understanding and ability. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to help their child achieve success.

I would thoroughly recommend Carly. She helped my son achieve a level 5 in his English Language GCSE, when he was on target to fail. He attended every single booster and extra revision class at school, but seemed to be there in body, not mind! The one to one personal support Carly was able to provide, was exactly what he needed. She talked to him like a real person, not a school pupil. Her approach was targeted and specific. He took on board everything she recommended. My only regret was not booking her sooner. We were quite last minute and in panic mode!

Carly has turned a subject they was stressful for my son into a one that is now enjoyable. She puts him at easy and teaches him in a style that he described as 'fun'. He feels he is finally making progress with his English. He has gone from lacking confidence to now really flourishing with Carly. :)
