About
Hi there! As a fully qualified English teacher with a degree in English (University of London) and a master’s degree in Learning and Teaching (University of Oxford), I offer expert online GCSE and IGCSE exam tuition for both English Language and English Literature.
I have over ten years’ experience teaching English in a variety of settings and stages; including primary, secondary, mainstream and special education. Over the last eight years, I have taught GCSE English almost exclusively. I am highly experienced at tutoring students for the GCSE and IGCSE English Language and English Literature exams. I have extensive knowledge of the English GCSE assessment objectives as well as the exams and course content from all the awarding bodies in the UK (including AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, OCR and Cambridge). I teach to the tests systematically – taking a skills-based approach to each of the questions and assessment objectives – and by using mock exams and past papers as a cornerstone.
I also tutor general exam etiquette (such as time management and exam-specific reading techniques). My series of logically planned lessons are organised to ensure that students are thoroughly prepared for each and every part of their English exams, whilst also being adaptable to individual needs. I upload all of my resources (including PowerPoints and revision guides) for students’ future reference and revision.
My online tutees learn from the comfort of their own homes, whilst I teach from my personal purpose built and professionally equipped office here in London. I tutor via an online communication platform (such as Teams) using a range of advanced equipment to enhance my tutees’ learning experience, including: a professional microphone and camera setup; a document camera; a document scanner; a graphics tablet; and, a wide range of up-to-date, curriculum-specific and exambody approved resources. All you need your end is a computer with a camera!
I am easy-going and friendly with a good sense of humour. In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing poetry, playing guitar and playing chess for my local club. I am married with three children, a cheeky cat, a hyperactive dog and a tenacious tortoise!
Please contact me to discuss further how I can support your child’s learning. I will get back to you at the earliest opportunity.
Tutoring Experience
Upon completing my BA degree in English, I trained as a teacher and spent the first four years of my teaching career in a mainstream primary school. I currently teach and lead English in a secondary school in London. I have a long track record of supporting students’ academic progress as well as their general attitudes to learning, and have supported many students through their English exams.
In 2020 I completed a master's degree in Learning and Teaching at Oxford University (St. Edmund Hall), where I carried out academic action research in a range of pedagogical areas, including:
· Differentiated approaches to tutoring for students with a range of academic abilities
· Assessment and exam preparedness
· Teaching English
· Strategies for supporting disaffected and unmotivated learners
· Inclusion of students with various barriers to learning
· Special Educational Needs
· Greater depth learning for higher ability students
· Curriculum design
· Promoting the progress of all pupils
· Pedagogical theory and current research
Undertaking such a challenging course has significantly improved my teaching practice as well as how I think about learning and teaching in general. My thesis on cultural capital in education was published by the Oxford University Research Archive.
I completed my National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership in 2024, further strengthening my knowledge of pedagogy and education.
Tutoring Approach
I am a very patient tutor who enjoys getting to know my students and who endeavours to instil in them a love of learning. I am careful to identify and break down any barriers to learning that may be hindering their progress and to tailor my tutoring approach to each and every one of their learning styles and needs.
I firmly believe that a student learns far more effectively when he or she enjoys their learning, rather than when they approach their work with a sense of fear or boredom.

Reviews from First Tutors
Imported from Daniel's First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.
How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Danny is a fantastic online tutor! He is currently tutoring my daughter in maths and has already, dramatically improved her understanding of the subject before starting year 7. Her confidence has visibly improved and she is able to complete the homework so much more quickly than just a few weeks ago. I am really impressed with Danny’s teaching style. He is very positive and patient. His setup is also impressive - he has great equipment in his office that brings everything to life. It is as good as being there in person and he can demonstrate how to complete maths tasks using different cameras and software. I can’t recommend Danny enough, he really is an exceptional tutor. He starts on time and my daughter always has at least a whole hour of tuition each lesson. He sets challenging homework and has encouraged confidence and independent learning in my daughter. Overall I am very pleased and so glad we have him as a tutor.
