I've spent five years teaching online, covering KS3, GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level English Language & Literature, EFL/ESL (B1-C2), Sociology and Psychology. I teach all major exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge IGCSE. My lessons are built around your child, not a generic scheme of work: I take time to understand how they think and where they get stuck, then pace sessions to them - patient, encouraging, and focused on metacognition, so they leave understanding how they think, not just what to write. That sits on top of 20 years in UK secondary and higher education, including a stretch as a Pastoral Dean at the University of York, responsible for the wellbeing of 2,500 students, plus extensive experience supporting SEN students in mainstream classrooms. I'm also an accredited wellbeing coach with qualifications in counselling skills, and I hold safeguarding training as an NSPCC Designated Safeguarding Officer and Mental Health First Aider. I work well across the full range - from students who lack confidence or find school triggers real anxiety, to high achievers pushing for the top grades - because both need the same thing underneath: someone who's genuinely paying attention to them.
