About
I am an experienced teacher with over 15 years as Head of Faculty of an 'outstanding' high performing school (Dame Alice Owen's) voted state school of the decade recently by the Sunday Times. I deliver engaging tutoring sessions tailored to the exact needs of each particular student. In my experience this tends to be a mix of mastering the knowledge through effective questioning and support and sharing of useful resources, progressing with content not yet covered in class, collaborative planning of past paper questions questions and, most importantly, giving detailed feedback on the tuttees exam technique. I share any helpful advice on a Google doc with the tutee and parents, so that there is transparency for all on what the student needs to focus on to improve. I mix this all with real world context to bring the learning to life and so the tutee gets the most enjoyment from the sessions. With my experience and MA in Education, I hope that serves as useful evidence of my capabilities. As I hope you can see from the reviews, all students reflect positively on their enjoyment and academic progress working with me.
I have been teaching since 2008, after graduating in 2002. In between I worked at the Treasury as an assistant economist, then moved onto the Prime Minister's Office to work under Tony Blair. I then travelled the world by bicycle for nearly two years, cycling over 10,000 miles through 26 countries before returning to work in the City. These experience have helped to shape my teaching practice and given me a degree of wisdom and knowledge I try to impart on my students. I have a family of two young boys, am a keen sportsman and cycle 100 miles to school and back each week.

Reviews from First Tutors
Imported from James B.'s First Tutors profile before the site went dark. Shown separately from Tutorperch reviews — today they don't feed this tutor's Tutorperch rating or ranking.
How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

We are so happy with the high level & quality of tuition my son is receiving which will enable him to reach his full potential. Jamie is reliable, flexible and knowledgeable with great worth ethic. Jamie is patient as well as being through he is very focused and most importantly has been able to understand my son's weak areas building his confidence leading up to the GCSE's. Highly recommend.

Jamie was a first class tutor for my daughter Lucy who was struggling with Economics at A level. My daughter not only enjoys the subject now but managed to secure an A grade in her A level. I know without Jamie's support, my daughter would not have been so successful. I recommend Jamie without hesitation. Kind regards Richard R.
James B. replied
Many thanks Richard and please do wish Lucy all the best with her next steps at University. Regards Jamie

Jamie in the last 2 weeks has used my son's interest in video gaming to develop his knowledge of buisness and Economics. I am now gradually seeing light at the end of an otherwise dark tunnel. He has brought hope where there was none. I would definitely recommend him to anyone whose child needs help in buisness and Economics… Thanks Jamie.
