About
Hi I am a fully qualified English teacher who has worked in secondary schools and sixth forms in the south of England. I have also had offered individual tuition for the past 6 years.
I am an exam board certified examiner and NEA moderator for A Level English Language and this has given me a great insight into the finer workings of the mark schemes. It means that I can help my students to construct responses to get the best possible marks!
I love teaching both language and literature and my students would describe me as enthusiastic about my subject! My specialist are is English Language and A Level students often say that I have finally made the course make sense for them.
Finally, I have experience of working with young people with a wide range of different educational needs including: dyslexia, ADHD, autism spectrum and other forms of neuro diversity. It is my hope to always make lessons inclusive, friendly and accessible.
As well as teaching young people, I also mentor graduates who wish to train to become English teachers, work as a tutor for students who have suffered mental or physical trauma and I even teach an adult art class!

Nicky has supported my son through his second year of A Level English Language with such dedication and passion, I can only thank her for getting him through a tumultuous couple of years. We would like to thank Nicky so much for her help, support and encouragment that she gave to our son Oli throughout Year11. Oli had lost his enthusiasm for English Language and Literature until we found Nicky; it was so good to hear him talking to Nicky with renewed interest and enjoyment. Her patience and understanding led to his confidence returning and he started to belive in himself and his capabilities. The lessons were fun and engaging and we often heard him laughing. Nicky inspired Oli so that he no longer dreaded English and gave him the tools to tackle his English GCSEs. Oli has dyslexia and ADHD and Nicky took all this in her stride. We really cannot recommend Nicky enough and we know Oli will miss her.

Nicky assisted my daughter in her re-takes of her English GCSE's. We found her to be very professional, knowledgeable and she interacted with our daughter very well. Also, her handouts were very useful for revision. We cannot recommend her enough for how she helped our daughter.

Nicky has proved to be an ideal tutor for our son, and has done an excellent job in preparing him for English GCSE. She really communicates her enthusiasm about the subject, and her in-depth knowledge of the course has enabled our son to make steady progress throughout the year. Nicky provided invaluable tutoring support and guidance in the run up to my daughters A Level English exams. She was patient, calm, extremely good at explaining high level and detailed concepts and theories and extremely knowledgeable and experienced in her subject specialisms as well as being great at building confidence in my daughter in her exam prep techniques and approaches. Nicky was flexible in accommodating as many session as possible for us over an 8 week period and certainly boosted my daughter confidence in her subject knowledge and herself to all her to do her best in her exams. Nicky has made a real difference to James performance in English and he is now so much more confident as he approaches the new format GCSE exams next month. Much of this has been about learning exam technique but Nicky's enthusiam for her subject is infectious and this has rekindled James interest in words and literature more generally. Nicky has been helping my sixteen year old son work towards the newly formatted AQA GCSE English Language exam due for examination June 2017. I have seen my son grow in confidence and ability in the short time we have be seeing Nicky. As an examiner herself Nicky has been able to help my son with much needed technique on how best to deal with the new exam structure. Quote of the day " If only we had found Nicky earlier Mum then maybe I would get an A grade ". We can't rate Nicky highly enough !

Nicky has evaluated and worked with my 14 yr old son to support and make ground in English. Matthew has improved and feels much more confident in his ability.
