Ms Andromachi D.
Teacher of Music (QTS) & Modern Greek Language (Native) - 30 years Composer (MusM), Mezzo Soprano & Pianist
About
About Me
I was born and raised in Greece and have built a multidisciplinary career as a Qualified Teacher of Music and Humanities (QTS Primary and Secondary Education), Composer, Music Theory Tutor, Professional Mezzo-Soprano, Voice Teacher, Piano Tutor, and Humanities Educator. My work is rooted in a deep commitment to artistic excellence and in the belief that music education can inspire, empower, and transform.
My musical studies focused on Diplomas (equivalent to FRSM Level, ABRSM) in Composition, Fugue, Counterpoint, and Harmony, Vocal Studies, as well as Piano (Certificate equivalent to LRSM Level, ABRSM), all completed with Distinction. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in European Civilization (Humanities) and a Master’s degree in Music Composition (Instrumental & Vocal) from the University of Manchester. In addition to Greek (my native language) and English, I have studied German and Italian, which has enriched my work as a performer and educator.
As a Composer, my works for string orchestra, chamber ensembles, mixed a cappella choirs, and soloists have been performed in concert halls across Europe and the USA. As a Mezzo-soprano and Choral Conductor, I have performed operatic roles, oratorios, lieder, contemporary works, musicals, jazz repertoire, and a wide range of classical and modern genres.
Teaching Experience
With thirty years of teaching experience, both in the UK and Greece, giving me a broad understanding of diverse educational systems and musical traditions, I have taught Music Theory (music history, analysis, harmony, harmonization, ear training, solfege, counterpoint, fugue, instrumentation, orchestration), Composition, as well as Vocal Studies, Piano, and GCSE, ABRSM/Trinity preparation (Grades 1–8) in schools, conservatories and further education, and have also conducted and accompanied mixed-voice choirs and ensembles.
As a Modern Greek language tutor, I have delivered lessons in Greek schools in both Greece and Oxford, teaching learners from beginner level through to A‑Level. My teaching experience encompasses working with students aged 4–18 and adults, consistently adapting my methods to meet diverse learning styles, abilities, and cultural contexts.
Approach to Music Tuition
I view the educational process as a partnership between teacher and student. I design tailor‑made lessons that integrate theory, practice, and carefully chosen musical examples. Each lesson is adapted to the student’s abilities, interests, and pace of learning. I encourage students to explore their own artistic voice, to think critically, and to engage deeply with the repertoire they study.
In Music Theory and Composition, I guide students from fundamental notation to advanced concepts such as harmony, counterpoint, fugue, analysis, instrumentation, and orchestration. Students learn to compose in different genres, experiment with musical ideas, and develop their own compositional style.
In Vocal Studies, I focus on circular breathing, body alignment, facial expression, ear training, pitch accuracy, and expressive communication. Singing supports emotional, physical, and psychological wellbeing, helping individuals express themselves, and build confidence. Technique is essential, but so is the ability to communicate feelings, tell stories, and bring music to life.
In Piano Studies, I combine technical training with stylistic awareness and emotional expression. Students learn the Alexander Technique principles, finger technique, posture, and breathing, and interpretive skills needed for confident performance.
Greek is a rich and historic language, deeply connected to culture, meaning, and expression. In my teaching, I go beyond word‑for‑word translation, integrating elements of Greek civilisation and drawing on my BA (Hons) in European Civilization. My experience in Greek and English schools in both countries, has equipped me with strong pedagogical skills and full fluency in both languages. I design structured, engaging, and personalised lessons that support learners’ goals—whether for pleasure, business, GCSE, or A‑Level.
I work with patience, professionalism, and a strong work ethic to help every learner progress with confidence. All my students have achieved a 100% pass rate in examinations with the majority attaining high marks.

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

We're glad we've found a teacher for our 8 years old daugher as patient, friendly and knowledgeable as Maggie. She's been taking lessons for about 2 months both face to face and online and has made huge progress in this period. Maggie tailored the lessons to her interest and encouraged her to set high goals. When she began she had barely touched a piano in her life and now her confidence has grown considerably We highly recommend Maggie who is very professional and puctual as well!

Neil
I have been working with Maggie for a few months on improving my understanding of the theory and practice of harmony – I’d taken online theory courses up to grade 8 and wanted to consolidate and extend that. Maggie has introduced topics each week and given me exercises to work on during the week, and we go through my answers in the next lesson. I have found the lessons and accompanying homework enjoyable, challenging and instructive, and Maggie is delightfully positive and extremely knowledgeable. I have learnt so much!
Ms Andromachi D. replied
Dearest Neil, I greatly appreciate your feedback as it derives from a self-motivated and very diligent hard worker who always strives to reach his full potential. The great level of enthusiasm and motivation shown in our sessions have definitely promoted the learning process and experience. Your capabilities, skills and energy helped me to meet your expectations. A person who completes preparatory work, seeks out new learning challenges and is very committed in doing his best, always exceeds expectations with the quality of his work. You have been a very inspirational student! Thank you!

Sam
I am a complete beginner and was looking for a teacher who could teach me both the theory and practical elements to playing piano. In the past I have had (guitar) tutors who simply asked me to pick a song and showed me how to play it. As my main goal is to be able to pick up any piece of music, understand it and play it I was looking for something much more informative and in-depth from a piano tutor. Maggie is a fantastic tutor and has ticked all for the boxes. She understands I am new and has been very patient with me. She knows what I am looking to get out of my learning and has provided me with a good balance of theory and practical knowledge. After each lesson it is very clear to me what I can work on during the coming week to improve for my next lesson and if I am ever in need of advice I am free to email Maggie who responds to my emails promptly and answers in full. I have also noticed that she is not eager to end the call when my hour is up and ensures we've finished discussing our current topic first. This tells me she's motivated to helping me learn. Maggie always brings positivity each week and it is a pleasure being taught by her!
Ms Andromachi D. replied
Dearest Sam, Your feedback is highly appreciated as it derives from an enthusiastic learner who seems to enjoy the lessons and exhibits a positive outlook and attitude, showing great enthusiasm which is very supportive of the learning process and the constructive alignment of the learning process. A self-motivated and very diligent hard worker who always strives to reach his full potential, very committed in doing his best. A person who completes preparatory work and practices consistently, seeks out new learning challenges and takes responsibility for his learning has definitely exceeded expectations with the quality of his work!

David
Maggie is teaching our son Grade 8 Music Theory. He describes Maggie as: encouraging, enthusiastic, supportive, knowledgeable, and as having a sense of humour (that's very important, as he has had some miserable teachers over the years!) I think that our only regret is that we didn't find Maggie sooner : )
Ms Andromachi D. replied
Dearest David, It has been a great pleasure and a creative experience to interact with Henry in lessons of music theory. Henry has been laborious and very motivated via his passion for music regardless of the level of effort required and the level of difficulty involved. His potential, personal strive and dedication to the subject area have contributed to the development of a solid foundation in understanding music.

Mustafa
I've had about five music lessons with Andromachi and they've just been brilliant. I've learned so much, had so much fun and really feel inspired about music. We're doing technical piano playing, theory and also just exploring music history. She's very attentive, prepares lessons very well and has so much material to work through. I really look forwards to our lessons. Couldn't recommend her more.
Ms Andromachi D. replied
Mustafa is an enthusiastic and efficient learner who seems to enjoy music lessons while exhibiting a positive outlook and attitude. Strives to always improve, committed in doing his best and enjoys challenges in the subject area. He participates very actively, reads, writes, always punctual and well prepared. Definitely an asset to the portfolio of any music teacher. Have really enjoyed our interaction as he has been a source of both a challenge and inspiration.
