Singing tutors

2 UK tutors who teach Singing.

Singing teaching in the UK splits cleanly into classical, musical theatre and contemporary pop, with different exam boards serving each: ABRSM Singing and Trinity Classical for the classical stream, LAMDA and Trinity for musical theatre, RSL Awards Vocals and Trinity Rock & Pop for popular music. LCME is one of the few boards to split Classical Singing and Popular Music Vocals into explicitly separate graded ladders. ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory prereq applies to Singing Grades 6-8 the same as for instruments. Voice-type assignment (treble, alto, tenor, baritone, bass) isn't fixed before adolescence and shouldn't drive an early teacher choice. Tutoring helps most with breath support around Grade 3-4, with passaggio (register transition) negotiation from Grade 5+, and with language diction (Italian, German, French) at Grade 6+ classical. Adolescent boys' voice change is accommodated in most syllabi but worth discussing explicitly with a prospective teacher. Pop and classical teachers are largely a non-overlapping pool: pick the tradition first, then the tutor.
