About
My educational background is mixed between artistic and academic qualifications. I graduated from Exeter University with a BA (Hons) in Theatre Arts & History, with Film studies & singing (to Diploma level) as subsidiary subjects, over 35 years ago. In addition, I have a variety of musical qualifications and experience. Two years after leaving Exeter University, I returned to Higher Education and gained a PGCE from Birmingham University. I have worked for both Warwickshire and Worcestershire Education Authorities with responsibilities for music, English, key Stage 2, as well as mentoring and coaching newly qualified teachers. In addition, I extended my training and knowledge by completing three leadership courses with the HTI: Leadership Pathways, Empowered Leaders and Coaching & Mentoring for Educational Leaders.
As well as a breadth of knowledge and experience working in schools, I have been extensively involved in Amateur Dramatics since the age of 15 years old, performing in both Warwickshire and Solihull, as well as singing professionally for smaller venues.
I have been running my own small Tuition business since 2014. I am driven by a strong belief that music is joyous and uplifting, music is healing and on occasions can even be therapeutic. My music students range from age seven to eighty years old. I teach all genres of music.
On the academic side, I am convinced that each and every one of us has an individual talent of some kind that should be nurtured and celebrated. Our Nat. Curr. currently states that children are targeted to achieve as a bare minimum a pass in GCSE English and maths. This is where I can assist with achieving this for those who find a challenge with either of these subjects at a younger age. I also offer tuition for children who may be described as gifted and talented who need support and guidance with preparing for the 11 Plus exam or Entrance exams. By providing personalised one-to-one support for children requiring maths/English support or for children wishing to gain entrance to Grammar schools, I hope to enable and encourage children to achieve their long term dreams and aspirations - my mantra for learning is “No-one should get left behind”.

At this time, our child has just started Maths lessons with Nikki but we can already see that she is a highly organised and conscientious person with a great deal of teaching experience. Nikki clearly enjoys teaching in a one to one context. She brings a lot of energy and direction to the lessons and there is plenty to get on with between classes too. Highly recommend!

Nikki is an experienced and thoughtful teacher. She provided a very helpful collection of Piano theory documents, tips for practice and a glossary of terms at my first lesson. She is an encouraging teacher and has helped me learn how to ‘learn’ to improve my piano skills. Nikki is a motivating teacher recognising the ability of the student, and how to work together to enjoy playing the piano. I am delighted with the progress I have made after three lessons and the confidence I have to learn at my own pace and for as long as I can.

I contacted Nikki as I needed help with my daughter’s KS1 English. I can see a great improvement on how my daughter construct sentences within a short period , plus her level of confidence has greatly improved. Nikki is a great teacher and her level of teaching/patient is phenomenal. I would greatly recommend her to any parent looking to improve their kid learning or boost their confidence.

Nikki is such an inspirational teacher. I have had 3 lessons so far and I already see improvements in my voice. Nikki made me feel at ease straight away. She is a wonderful teacher. The whole time went so fast and afterwards I felt on top of the world like I could conquer anything. I found passion in a different sense and it was certainly good as a therapy as well. I will definitely be going back for some more lessons.

Nikki has a lovely temperament and demeanour. She has always been very patient and encouraging with my piano skill as I have restarted lessons after many years. As a shift worker, she is accommodating and understanding with this also. I would definitely recommend Nikki.

I have had six lessons with Nikki, doing half singing and half piano and have thoroughly enjoyed every one. She is a fount of knowledge about all things musical and seems to have an intuitive way of finding repertoire which really suits me. I have found her to be really encouraging and supportive and already find that my confidence and abilities have significantly improved. In addition to being an excellent teacher, she is lovely lady that I enjoy chatting to and I can't recommend her highly enough!
