Rachel H.
20 years experienced Teacher of Economics and Business at A Level and GCSE
About
I am an experienced teacher of Economics and Business with over 20 years’ experience teaching GCSE and A Level students. Alongside classroom teaching, I have worked as an examiner for both the AQA and OCR exam boards, giving me a detailed understanding of exam requirements, mark schemes and what examiners are looking for in high-level responses. I have tutored pupils following AQA, OCR, WJEC, Edexcel and Pearson IAL International A level exam boards.
I graduated from The University of Manchester with a degree in Economic and Social Studies. Prior to moving into teaching in 2006, I built extensive experience within the financial services sector and became an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Having recently retired from a long and rewarding career as a senior leader at a leading independent school in the North West, I now offer one-to-one tuition (online or in person) and small-group online sessions for GCSE and A Level Economics and Business students.
My approach focuses on developing a strong understanding of core economic and business concepts, while helping students apply theory effectively to real-world and exam contexts. I place particular emphasis on the analytical and evaluative skills needed to achieve the highest grades. Lessons are interactive, supportive and carefully tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals.
In addition to standard tuition sessions, I also offer the option to submit practice essays and past papers and receive individual in-depth feedback. This includes guidance on exam technique, structure, analysis and evaluation, enabling students to understand exactly how to improve their performance — with a level of personalised feedback that is often difficult to achieve in large school and college classes.

How we verify these
Each imported review went through admin review. The tutor proved ownership of the First Tutors profile via one of two paths:
- Photo match. The First Tutors avatar matched the tutor's identity-verified Tutorperch photo, confirmed by admin.
- Cryptographic email check. The tutor uploaded an original First Tutors email (.eml). We verified the DKIM signature against First Tutors' signing keys and cross-checked the embedded tutor ID against the claimed profile.
The review text is the original reviewer's own words, quoted as-is. We verified the tutor's ownership of the profile, not the truth of what each individual reviewer wrote.

Rachel has recently helped Tutor my son Jack who was in his 1st year of 6th form. After a number of evening sessions Jack managed to score an A in his mock exam and we are now excitedly awaiting his actual AS mark. Jack found Rachels lessons very interesting, up to date and found Rachel herself to be very easy to get a long with. Rachel also helped with a full day crash course, giving up her Sunday, to ensure Jack was on top form for his exam. Jack went into his exams full of confidence and we can only thank Rachel for that.

I've just got my results, A*. Rachel played a huge part in this as I was really struggling to master the exam technique and had an overall D when she started working with me. Rachel was 100% reliable, always on time, very professional and helped me jump 5 grades! Thanks Rachel

I have found Rachel to be an excellent tutor since she has started working with my daughter. She is knowledgable and professional whilst also being approachable and friendly and has quickly built a good rapport with my daughter. Rachel has really helped with her confidence and has made a very positive effect on her Economics work so far.
