Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified English teacher with a passion for stories in almost any genre, in almost any form. I have over twenty years teaching experience and have taught in secondary, further and higher education establishments. I enjoy reading and writing and going to the theatre. I also love the great outdoors, and when I'm not teaching I like to go camping with my dog, Nancy. I love new ideas, knowledge, all animals, science-fiction, sunshine and travelling.
Tutoring Experience:
I am an experienced and fully qualified English teacher with an excellent results record. I have taught privately for the last twelve years and have had many successes, including several GCSE students improving from a grade 3 to a 5 in under a year. My successes include several students achieving grade 6 and up despite having fairly significant dyslexia, home schooled students achieving grade 7 and up in their GCSE and IGCSE, and A' level students achieving A and A* in their English Language & English Literature A levels. Over the years I have also seen several students make meteoric progress from a grade 4 to an 8 in their GCSE, which is absolutely fantastic!
Tutoring Approach:
I am patient, supportive, approachable and believe strongly in the value of a good rapport between tutor and tutee. I am very good at quickly identifying specific weaknesses and areas for improvement which, in conjunction with an in-depth knowledge of the KS3, KS4 and KS5 syllabi, often produces significant and rapid improvement. I believe very strongly that teaching and learning should be creative and active and not be about the passive absorption of facts. I take a keen interest in current educational ideas and the processes of the mind, and endeavour to incorporate an understanding of how we learn into everything I do.

My daughter achieved a level 9 for English Literature and 7 for English Language after being tutored by Felicity. She had achieved a 7 and 5 in her mocks. We were very pleased with the improvement in her English which we attribute to the tutoring that Felicity gave my daughter . Highly recommended!

Fliss tutored my daughter during year 11. While my daughter had the ability she lacked confidence, through her sessions with Fliss she built this confidence and managed to get both her language and literature GCSEs meaning she can now do the a levels she wants. Thanks Fliss from us all.

Felicity helped my daughter enormously. Her English improved so much and although predicted a C/D in her GCSE she achieved a B in English Language and English Literature! Felicity's teaching is excellent but she is also so encouraging and both my daughters have actually enjoyed their English for the first time!

My daughter saw Felicity weekly for 5 months before her As exams to help with her English language. My daughter found it gave her much more clearer understanding and a lot more confidence to support her with taking the exam. Would strongly recomend and will be using her again in the 4 months leading up to her A2 exams.

My Son was struggling to find confidence in the run up to his English GCSE so we found Felicity on this website and we were so glad we did. My son has been going to Felicity for help with his A'Level English and in a short period of time I have seen his confidence grow and develop. He is yet to sit his exam but I wanted to say how impressed I am with the work he is doing with her. Felicity regularly emails helpful hints, to assist in the writing of his coursework, which he has found incredibly helpful. His A'Level staff have also seen his writing technique mature, which in turn will help him secure the grade he needs for university.
