Teaching Experience

I have taught over 10,000 hours of one-to-one lessons to students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, both in-person and online. I work in the UK and abroad and for the last ten years tutoring has been my sole focus. I also have experience working directly in schools: I was hired by an academy in the North of England to undertake interventions with Year 13 in preparation Physics A level. Throughout the COVID pandemic I provided academic support to students of all ages including preparation for exams and Teacher Assessed Grades. In 2019 I tutored privately in Beijing and in 2022 assisted a student from Singapore with her application to elite UK schools.

Tutoring Approach

One of the keys to successful tuition is transparency. My goal is to make sure that both student and parent are clear on the current status of the student, their work ethic, the grade they can expect and what they need to do to improve it. By aiming for open and honest conversation about the student’s progress we give ourselves the best chance at success.

With over 10,000 hours experience I have seen a huge variety of student types and have learned a corresponding variety of techniques to teach them. Multiple approaches to each topic can be used to find a method that is suitable for each student. I have supported students online through the coronavirus pandemic, working toward both teacher-assessed grades and in 2022 the return to standardised examinations.

I provide support outside lessons by email, text and phone to deal with urgent issues, both academic and pastoral. I can also provide prep work/homework between lessons from an extensive resource library to assist with independent study.

I am also keen to emphasise that I try to offer moral support as well as academic. Exam periods can be a stressful and challenging time in a young person's life and so I like to make sure that my students are happy and comfortable with everything that is happening, as well as successful.
