Clarinet tutors
2 UK tutors who teach Clarinet.
Clarinet tuition runs through ABRSM, Trinity (with a dedicated Jazz Woodwind ladder alongside Classical) and LCME. The Bb clarinet is the standard student instrument; A clarinet and bass clarinet appear at higher grades. ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory prereq applies to Practical and Performance Grades 6-8. Typical starting age is eight to ten for front-teeth development and finger-span. Some teachers start younger on plastic-bodied student instruments. Tutoring helps most with 'crossing the break' (going over the throat-tone register into the clarion, around Grade 2), with reed management (a recurring practical issue parents don't anticipate), and with embouchure endurance at Grade 4+. The clarinet-to-saxophone pathway is the most common UK doubling route because the embouchure family and transposition logic carry across. A tutor who teaches both is a common ask for students heading into school big bands.
