Grade 4-5 Saxophone tutors

1 UK tutor who teach Saxophone at Grade 4-5.

Saxophone tuition runs through ABRSM (with a separate ABRSM Jazz Saxophone ladder — itself an accepted alternative to Grade 5 Music Theory as a prereq for Practical Grades 6-8), Trinity Classical and Jazz Woodwind, and RSL Awards on the contemporary side. The alto sax is the default student horn for its size, weight and reed economy; tenor is common for jazz from Grade 3 onwards; baritone and soprano are specialist choices. Typical starting age is nine to eleven. Tutoring helps most with embouchure transfer from clarinet (usually looser than students expect), with altissimo register from Grade 6+, and with the distinct jazz versus classical articulation styles. Alto reeds are cheaper and more forgiving than tenor — a quiet money-saver parents often discover late. Look for tutors with explicit jazz or classical specialism depending on the student's interest; most teach one stream well and not both equally.
