New: The UK Private Tutoring Rate Report 2026

Original analysis of 24,183 UK tutor profiles from the First Tutors archive. Headline finding — confidence is mentioned 27× more often in reviews than grade improvement.

Hello,

We've published our first piece of original research: an analysis of 24,183 UK private tutor profiles from the First Tutors archive — by subject, level, region, and reputation.

Three findings worth flagging:

  • Confidence is mentioned 27× more often than grade improvement. Of 80,000+ parent reviews, when parents articulate what tutoring did for their child, it's overwhelmingly emotional, not academic.
  • Reputation is the strongest predictor of a tutor's rate. A tutor with 50+ reviews charges 67% more at the median than one with none — bigger than any geographic or subject effect.
  • Rates have kept pace with inflation. The UK median rose from £28/h in 2018 to £40/h in 2026 — 43% nominal against CPI of 34%. Most of the move came after 2022.

The page includes an interactive rate explorer (pick subject × level × region), a choropleth map of London by borough, the time-series since 2018, and an open dataset.
