Mr Simon L.
Experienced head of geography and examiner
About
I have taught for 14 years and still find it satisfying when students discover something new or the 'penny drops' on a difficult concept. My degree is Physical Geography and my specialist areas of Glaciation, Weather and Climate and Tectonic Hazards. On the human side I really find Superpowers and Place interesting as it is forever changing in our world.
I am flexible with how and what I deliver. I usually ask a week in advance what you would like to cover, this may reflect what you have done in school that week, or using a topic checklist to identify weaker areas. However, in the lesson I am easily able to adapt what we cover based on your emerging needs.
I have worked in a variety of settings, from private schools to 8 years in the grammar system where I have learnt how to push and challenge students to get the most out of them. I am now working in a comprehensive school and I am also able to support lower attaining students.
I am confident in both sides of Geography, Physical and Human, however, at A level I would say I am more of a physical Geography specialist. I teach AQA GCSE and Edexcel A level currently but I have tutored all other major exam boards including international specifications. I like to spend time at the beginning of the lesson drawing out what you already know, then fill in misconceptions / knowledge gaps before using my wealth of exam marking knowledge to help you understand how to apply your knowledge so you can maximise the number of marks available to you.
I used to be on first tutors which has now gone and I had 5* reviews from my previous tutees.
